  • I know it says high accuracy, but how do we know?

Point it at the sun, check if it matches the BOM? 🤷‍♂️

      • Fair call

  • Unless they're posting specs this likely isn't better than a $20-30 IR temp sensor on ebay, perhaps this has a more consumer friendly design though.

Independent testing research Choice found this device to be highly accurate and gave it the highest score. I find Choice to be very reliable.

Bought this one based on the choice review and a normal thermometer as a backup.

I've used it a few times and it has been fine. We've never ended up using the backup thermometer. I don't think there is a problem with this type of thermometer as long as you understand the limitations. IIRC, the room has to be warmer than 16 degrees for these to work.

The reviews on choice website say that it doesn't work if room temperature drops below 16C. Looks to be a good thermometer except for this issue.

We bought this as we were unhappy with some of the features of the in-ear digital thermometer we already had, but have found the oricon to rarely detect a mild fever in a clinically unwell child. The oricon gives a normal temperature (36-37.6) reading while the in-ear temperature reading is higher (37.9-38.5) which makes it not sensitive enough for our family

  • We’ve got this, does the job, good with the kids

  • I've given up on thermometers. We have some Vicks underarm thermometers that seems to work for the kids, but I've tried numerous types for us (adults) including expensive non-touch and ear thermometers with no luck.

It's always the same. Lots of instructions about the correct way of using them and if you don't get an expected reading, you are not using them right. But we've tried them numerous times exactly like instructions and never had any consistency so we just haven't had a thermometer for years as a bad reading is worse than no reading at all.

Are there any thermometers these days that are actually consistent and fool proof for adults? I'm very sceptical of this one (and our last useless one was oricom as well). Our whole house has just had high fevers for several days (finally recovering) and I'm thinking it might finally be time to buy yet another one. Or maybe I shouldn't even bother, it seems impossible.

    • @fruxo The most accurate thermometer I've come across is the ear thermometer that doctors use i.e. Welch Allyn Thermoscan Pro 6000 Digital Thermometer. I paid $338 about 2 years ago from AMA WA. Available at most medical suppliers.

Expensive but I was over the inaccurate thermometers purchased at the pharmacies (ear, non-contact IR, oral/axillary).

We just use nature’s thermometer - our hands. If your kids have have a temperature, you’ll always feel they’re hot to the touch.

    How's Braun Thermoscan ones?
Ordered Thermoscan 7 for $100 from PCBytes

    • I loved it until my youngest threw it in the dog bowl. Wasn't going to spend another $100 for that to happen again so bought a forehead no name brand from Amazon for ~$30 and tbh it's served us well so far

        LOL kids

  • OOS

  • It is good device for summer only. In winter it only works above 15 degrees, which means increase the room temperature or put that device in blanket for 30 mins. lol
