Bing Lee - Can't Redeem Gift Card

Hi, just purchased a gift card from Shopback for Bing Lee, purchasing an item that is $1500 with a GC value of $1000.

However, when I go to check out in the gift card section the code doesn't work, it doesn't prompt an error or anything simply turns grey. There's also not an area where I can insert the PIN number too which was provided by Shopback.

Anyone had experience with this?

Update 1: I've even placed random smaller items worth less than the GC and still does the same thing.

Update 2: I got a call back from Bing Lee, the sales attendent did her best to rectify my situation but she said something that I wish to clarify here. She mentions that when using gift cards in conjunction with cash I cannot get cashrewards/shopback on top.

So for example in the most recent sale I purchased a washer for $1399 with the FLASH10 coupon that brought it to $1,259.1. On top the cashrewards bonus that day was also 10% so I was expecting another 10% from $1259.1 which would bring me down to $1,133.19. I would be paying $1000 via GC and paying the rest in cash, the rep advised me that I was inelgible for cashrewards because I am using a gift card to pay. Is this true? I thought the gift card purely counted as credit and didn't disqualify from getting cashrewards.

Contact Shopback and/or Bing Lee then…

  • Are there anything else on the gift card that could be the code? I remember for eBay gift cards you actually use the pin as the code or something.

    • on the shopback App I have the voucher code and also a 4 digit PIN.

I've tried even putting both in the same line but it doesnt work. I can't tell if the Bing Lee website is the issue for not picking the code up or I've been issued an incorrect code from shopback.

On Bing Lees website you cant use gift cards that are worth less than the value of the item you are purchasing. I had this same issue last week. You either have to chat to their sales through the website, call them up or go in-store. And you have to get it delivered if you do it online this way. I will never buy anything from bing lee again haha

Edit for more info: They told me it was to prevent fraud despite most other retailers having this facility available. Their gift card terms and conditions also state you can make split payments using gift cards online which is why I put a complaint in through ACCC. I'm still talking to their head office back and fourth but mainly doing it for a laugh at this point because the ACCC is pretty gutless and nothing will ever come from it.

    • Yeah I read somewhere else where this was mentioned. So I intentionally added to cart something at $400 instead but still to no avail. It's simply not picking it up, is the "Pin" section suppose to prompt up after you put in the code?

      • It would not surprise me if they have disabled gift cards across their whole website at this point. But having said that, when I attempted to use mine it never asked for a pin

How stupid….they keep selling the cards and can't even get a simple checkout sorted. They can't expect everytone to walk in store and get the staff to make it happen. Can't believe we still have these issues in 2023.

Well that's the gift card issue quota met for today for Ozbargain.

  • You sure it's an actual gift card, and not just a virtual visa or similar?

    • Yup, since I dont have any expiring date to input nor ccv options. It is without a doubt a 100% a gift card. I've bought the exact same ones for amart just then and no dramas, put the code in paid the other part with cash, done deal.

Oh well, have to wait til tomorrow to sort it. The joy of saving 82 cents using gift cards and they hassle they bring I suppose.

        • Hahaha I almost regret it too but I was like ah well, next to no effort for another $20 saved why not! Look where that got me lol.

My inner ozbargainer told me I had to save that $20

@tony87: You save way more than that by walking into the store and bartering with them.

@brendanm: Sometimes hit and miss too I suppose!

                @tony87: I've never had a miss.

                • @brendanm: Share you strategies! and how much do you usually shave off the ticketed price?

@tony87: Literally just tell them to do it cheaper. Completely depends on the product. I got them to reduce the price on an iPad case, the sky's the limit.

                  • @tony87: How do you negotiate cheaper prices at Bing Lee?

Bing Lee is an Australian retail chain that specializes in consumer electronics and appliances. Here are some tips that might help you negotiate a better price at Bing Lee:

Do your research: Before you go to Bing Lee, do some research on the product you want to buy. Check out the prices at other retailers and online stores. This will give you an idea of what the product is worth and what the going rate is.

Be friendly and polite: When you approach a salesperson at Bing Lee, be friendly and polite. Introduce yourself and ask if they can help you find what you're looking for. Make small talk and establish a rapport with the salesperson.

Ask for a discount: Once you've established a rapport with the salesperson, ask if they can give you a discount on the product you want to buy. Be specific about the amount you're looking to save, and explain why you think you deserve a discount. For example, you might say that you're a loyal customer or that you're buying multiple items.

Be flexible: If the salesperson can't give you a discount on the product you want to buy, be open to other options. They might be able to offer you a cheaper alternative or suggest a different product that's on sale.

Check for promotions and coupons: Before you make your purchase, check Bing Lee's website or social media accounts for any current promotions or coupons. You might be able to save some money this way.

Remember, the key to negotiating a cheaper price is to be friendly, polite, and flexible. Don't be pushy or aggressive, and be willing to walk away if you can't get the deal you want.

                    • @MS Paint: I will NEVER shop at Bing Lee Marrickville.

Why? Because it closed down. Now I go Bing Lee Alexandria.

            • @brendanm: OP can do both! Walk in, banter, pay with GC!

@CodeXD: Will OP get a discount based on how good his banter is?

            • @brendanm: Bargaining
