Jetstar - Skipping Leg of Flight

Does anyone have any experience with skipping the last leg of an outbound flight? My original flight to Japan got cancelled. I contacted them and they moved it to a different flight that gets to a different city in Japan at a reasonable time, but then there's a long-ass overnight layover before flying to the original city that I booked. I don't really care where in Japan I arrive in, so I asked them if it was possible to not have the last leg of the outbound flight in the booking, but they said to just not board that flight. Will there be any issues from this? Should I inform the staff when I check in that I don't intend to board the last flight or do that when I get to Japan?

The annoying thing is that not long after I finished with the live chat agent, my original flight is available to be booked again. I'm kinda wondering if it wasn't a cancellation but instead I got bumped off the flight, just ahead of time.

If your return flight back from Japan is on the same ticket, you may have an issue if the system says you haven't completed previous leg and therefore does not allow your next travel.

If you don't have a return flight back on the same ticket then shouldn't really be an issue. Some airlines end up banning people that don't complete legs but not straight away from the first time.

Best option is to try and change the flight to a suitable timing for yourself.

    • I have a return flight in the same booking, but I asked the live chat agent, who advised me that I could skip the last leg of the outbound flight, if skipping it would affect my return flight and they said it wouldn't.

      • I suppose they would know best then. Hopefully it's accurate information. Safe travels.

I hope you’ve stashed a copy of the chat transcript.

Quite certain the chat agent is wrong on this.

It's called a "hidden city" ticket.
Generally doing it will void the remaining flights you have with the airline, including return flights.

    • I doubt the OP booked these flights with the intention of 'hidden city ticketing'. The real reason was the OP is happy to jump off at any arrival city in Japan because they changed their flight and didn't want a long layover. You are correct, though. Miss a leg of a flight, and the remaining flights on the ticket will likely be cancelled.

It's ok, you're not getting to Japan anyway

  • They delayed our flight back last month but luckily i had flighttraker set up with alerts. Saved me spending an extra 4 hours at narita. The flight to tokyo some of the people were from a cancelled flight from the day before. The two i spoke to were from melbourne and had to find a hotel near OOL. Jetstar are really dropping the the ball a lot more post covid.
