Best value 365 sim with roaming

So I'm moving to the UK next week and looking for a good value prepaid 365 day sim to transfer my number to for any existing 2 factor auth and for checking messages etc if I forgot to tell someone I'm moving. Don't care for data and really it will sit in a drawer and maybe I'll check it every few weeks.

So really what I'm looking for is the following:
Some included talk time or credit in case I need to reactive an occasional short phone call on an AU number
Ability to receive voicemail whilst roaming
Free receive sms

So Far I'm leaning towards the $120 Amaysim 12 Month expiry plan with the $20 interional roaming pack https://www.amaysim.com.au/plans/mobile-plans/international/…

Also Aldi Mobiles roaming looks interesting, from what I can tell I can buy $15 credit and they charge $1 per min to make or receive a call, given expected low usage this may wor out my cheapest option. https://m3.aldimobile.com.au/docs/international_roaming_info…

But interested in any other options people can suggest

All depends on your needs in new place. If you’re moving to uk permanently or more than 6 months, you’ll need a local SIM, meaning that your AU number will likely become temporarily redundant.
Calling back to AU is mostly WhatsApp or similar. No need for international roaming.
If that’s the case, why pay for full service? Maybe flip to Felix & pay for a month or two, but doubt you’ll use it.
I have family member in Europe for 8 months. Has parked their AU number on $5 Aldi 365 prepaid.
    That’s the OzBargain way.

Move is permanent, and yes i'll get a UK sim as soon as I land, but I've had this number a long time and have used it for a ton of things so really looking for the cheapest way to keep it for the occasional receiving of SMS or voicemail, Aldi is tempting, anyone had experience using it for voicemail retrieval?

Amaysim pay as you go. A$10 first year, A$15/year after that. Works fine for SMS as long as you don't answer incoming spam calls and call back to known callers or use redirect to VoIP number. Voicemail is not free from roaming.

This. Since you don't plan to actually use data, make call or send text, go with either amaysim or AldiMobile pay as you go SIM since receiving SMS or call overseas is free. Just need to remember adding credit each year.

since receiving SMS or call overseas is free

i think receiving calls whilst overseas cost you $$$.

only sms is free to receive.

I would suggest that you get the cheapest 365 day sim you can find. Because, incoming SMS is free even if you are roaming. You do not need an international roaming pack for it. Your friends and family from Oz can call you either on your new UK number, or WhatsApp on Australian number. You have an option to retain your Australian number on WhatsApp. If you need WhatsApp with your new UK number, maybe get WhatsApp Business. That will work independent of the standard WhatsApp. This is exactly I am using it, but in reverse order. I live here, but have an overseas sim (not roaming).

  • For calls you could use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grandstrea… with a cheap (but quality) voip supplier, e.g. Siptalk, Maxotel or Crazytel. Check out https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/125. Crazytel have virtual mobile but cheaper to go with Aldi for SMS.

    • did consider VOIP, but couldn't really find a provider that i could port my number to, this would have been the easiest option.

      • I would just get an Aus DID ($1/month) just so people/companies can ring a real number, plus you can make local Aus calls for fixed 10c. Also, they email voicemail messages to you.

I guess you will be doing a bit of travelling in EU, https://www.hotukdeals.com/discussions/o2-to-carry-on-offeri…. Even though UK is no longer EU, some companies give free roaming.
