    I remember when I was a kid there were leather shops everywhere, where you could go in and they could make you a new strap in seconds. Maybe get a Time Machine and go back to when I was a kid, find a leather shop, and ask for a strap similar to the one on the bag.

A shoe repair shop did a repair similar on a shoe strap. Maybe they can do yours. Was pretty affordable.

Honestly, if your wife likes the bag, don't use glue and don't DIY. Just take it to a leather repair shop who can do it properly and professionally.
