How to Deal with Dog Allergies?

Hi all. I have a two year old staffy x chihuahua. This is her second time in two months that she has had yeast in her ears. She also has yeast on her paws. I wash them every third day with malaseb. I was considering giving her supplements from ZamiPet but I'm not too sure if that would help. Any ideas? My vet is great but he sends me off with medication, when I just want to get to the bottom of it or at least help her.

I feed her a can of Blackhawk wet food for breakfast. A Greenies treat for lunch and then healthy everyday pets for dinner.

This is her: people think that she's a Jack Russel.

  • What came first, the yeast or the frequent washing?

      The yeast.

  • Cute dog. If she sleeps with you have you recently changed brands of cleaning products?

She does sleep with me. My mum goes from one brand of washing liquid to another due to the price, lol. She does scratch her paws on our walks. I guess it's marking/making for other animals?

I like your doggo, she looks like a goodun.

One of my dogs was a staffy and he used to get ear and paw infections from freshly mown grass, wandering creeper, and a couple of other plants. After it had been more than 12 hours since mowing he would be ok. Watering the grass after mowing used to help a little.

I used to wash his paws in warm salt water instead of using stuff from the vet.

Ask for a referral to a dermatologist

    • Thanks for the heads up! I didn't know they existed for pets. I'll have to see if her pet insurance will cover it.

  • Try Ilium Ear Drops.

They’ve done wonders for my dog’s ears when applied once/twice a week, use to have to use this cleaning gel as well on them but haven’t used it for a long time now due to those.

Just a few drops and massage their ears for 30 seconds with it and that should deal with the yeast issue.

    • She gets her ears rechecked next week. Once she gets all the clear should i start her on them or just wait a few days for the medication to wear off?

      • I’d ask your vet but I don’t see how they’d be an issue to use already. I never asked the vet about it, but they’ve been happy with how his ears have been on it for a few years now.

        • Thank you very much!
