      You new to kickstarter?

    • +2

Thats why I said pre-order as it hasn't been released yet.

  • Technically this isn't a bargain as it's had no price reduction and it's likely not a limited release at this price. None the less, I still give this one a thumbs up! I'd buy one in a second but adding a 4th console to the house just isn't sensible.

Actually, the price is going up after this run, so it is limited at this price.

I pledged several days ago with a second controller :)
I really hope this is a success.

  • I really hope this succeeds, but just a buyer beware: apparently these guys are a long way from getting a single game developed for it, and it won't run existing android games (?!?!!!).

    • Im sure it will be rooted ;p and have many custom roms after its released that will run Android games.

  • I'm in two minds about this console. I love the idea about it, but I can just see piracy running rampant and software development taking a nosedive quite early.

    • Every game on OUYA will be free in a limited form. You then have to buy more levels/upgrades/whatever. It's a model where piracy is less likely to flourish in my onion.

      • +1

Do you often have pirates flourishing in your onion?

    • but I can just see piracy running rampant

cant get developers onside with a kit you cant get your hands on

    Where's the bargain?

  • +1

Note this is on KICKSTARTER. There's no actual production of this product yet. It might not ever eventuate so you might lose your money.. it might eventuate, although it might be 2014.. they might also ask for more money (These are all realities of kickstarter). With that said, they do have a LOT of backers, and some significant partners for hardware and games, so it does seem like it will come through. I am also a backer of it, but given that it's kickstarter, anything can happen so buyer beware. So, bargain??? … …

  • I made my pledge a couple of weeks ago and didn't even consider it post it here - definitely should be in the forums. Just be aware that you need to manually add $20USD to your pledge for shipping to Aus.

  • This is not really a deal, since the controller is not and won't be available until next year. Pledges belong to the forums.

    Moved to forums.

This is gonna fail so hard.

    • I dunno, Beaker. This is going to have nearly $7 million dollars in financial backing from Kickstarter alone in four days' time and surely there will be other private investors coming to the table over the next few months. So money-wise, it is very well supported. The stumbling block is probably going to be manufacturing nearly 50,000 consoles before March next year (and 700 before December). In saying this, we have been told that the hardware is pretty standard stuff and shouldn't be difficult to put together. I have faith in these guys :)

      • I appreciate they have cash Johnno, they Also have a co-dev of the original Xbox but the problem is that they are very inexperienced and heading into a declining market. Sony's PS branch just lost $45m this quarter, I know that they are aiming at a slightly different (niche) market at the moment but all of a sudden $7m doesn't look so much especially when you consider they have to manufacture a lot of consoles, as well as R&D and also the potential problem with reliability that MS and Sony (to a lesser extent) had with their first models of their current consoles. Also tbf I heard that they had closer to $4m though that could be wrong.

    • the oculus rift is a far more viable kickstarter to me http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-57486608-1/gamers-go-ga-…

    Hey Ozbargainers,

If you are on the fence about this, Ouya has recently signed a partnership with Onlive.

OnLive is not available in Australia.

      • +2

OnLive has hardly been a success as far as I know.

When this is released in March 2013 (at the earliest), you'll probably be able to buy a decent Tegra 3 tablet with HDMI for $1-200. Will do so much more - play existing Android games, Tegra Zone games, portable. You can already pair a PS3 controller with Android tablets. Tegra 4 will be out then too. Not really seeing the appeal of this.
