Is It Possible Officeworks or JB Hi-Fi Employee Discount Price or Give Away Laptop Bag or Other Material?

Hi,
I am just arrived in AU
and I need to buy laptop due to my original laptop is not working any longer
So, I am looking around JB hifi or Officework to buy new laptop
My friend just told me you can ask to employee discount or laptop bag when you buy laptop in OW or JB.
He said not every time works but possibly get extra things?
is it true????
I am thinking to buy MacBook m1
If this question inappropriate will delete it
Also, I just want to know how price match. Can I just show them the webpage of that product from other store? (in amazon jb Harvey Norman etc?)

Thanks
Always best luck for everyone in here and always thanks for good info!

Hey wwc, I work at JB Hi-Fi and can answer your questions.
Sorry your laptop isn’t working mate.
So if you’re buying a few items you can definitely ask for a good price on the bits and pieces. With Apple products unless it’s a price match we can’t give you a discount but if you were buying a laptop bag and other stuff with a MacBook I’d give you a good price on the other stuff. As far as price matching just has to be a legitimate Australian price for the item.
Any other questions let me know!

The Margins in a MacBook aren't great, though better than an iPhone.

Generally a retailer will have 10% off at some point on MacBooks.

        • +3

Yeah every now and again we do have the MacBooks at 10% off but that’s a rebate from Apple I believe, can’t actually do that if you ask unless we are price matching. As much as I like to give good prices Apple is very tight for us.

          • @cashbackman: 100% not a rebate from Apple, it's sold below cost when a 10% off sale is on.

            • @GOMOOTYPRO: Well well well interesting. What makes you sure? They still factor in a two bucks or so of commission for the salesperson. Most sales are paid for by manufacturers.

              • @cashbackman: I previously worked closely in making these promos happen.

              • @cashbackman: It depends on the Retailer. They all have different Buy Prices (depending on the Supplier/Vendor), but also different Rebate structures, so the sales person gets a spiv on the sale, plus commision on 'Extended Warranty', Anti-Virus, Bags etc

        • oh I didn't know that :)
          thanks for the kind reply!

Officeworks does allow an employee discount for their staff, but 99% of team members will not simply give their own discount cards to random customers since it's against policy. The prices at OW are set (adjusted frequently to match/beat competing stores), sales staff cannot give you a better price or throw in accessories for free, unfortunately.

You can definitely try this in other stores, where salesman have some freedom in that regard, but Officeworks simply don't do this because their prices are already (usually) the lowest, compared with JB HiFi/Harvey Norman/The Good Guys etc.

It's just someone who lives paying retail price and not getting free things.

Telstra had $150 off an iPhone 14 but wouldn’t sell me one on the spot (“very busy today, you can make an appointment for tomorrow”) so I went upstairs to JB Hi Fi, explained that I would buy one immediately if they could match the $150 off, and they did it without hesitation. I sort of waved my own phone showing my Telstra account details to show I was eligible (for the Telstra offer) but they barely glanced at it.

Moral of the story: ask, because they can only say no.

“very busy today, you can make an appointment for tomorrow”

Seems to a recurring theme with Telstra shops. Walked in to one at 1.45pm ~3 weeks ago, and was told to the same. Asked if I could go on-line to make an appointment, and was told 'Sorry I'm not sure'.

He wasn't able / willing to make an appointment for me whilst there for tomorrow.
Couldn't say whether I could book online.

All he offered was come in earlier tomorrow and we'll sort you out. Given their closing time and the the fact there were only 2 other members of public in the rather large store, I couldn't understand why they would turn people away.

Same thing for me when I bought a Pixel 5 for the wife. They wanted me to schedule an appointment to buy something that literally takes the tap of a card and someone looking out the back for 2 minutes to find.

Walked into JB and was sorted in minutes with a price match.

    • damm that is cool XD
thanks for the information and reply!
should ask if I will go to jb hifi!
thanks hope everything you do goes well

Macbook Airs are $1278 (Normally $1499). The deal finishes today as far as I know.
Its' at Amazon, HN, JB, TGG and OW, so take your pick.

    • oh yeah I am on my way !

You have another 2 hours and 10 mins (make it 4 if going to OW). Best of luck.

Apple also does price match with their authorized resellers.

    • what? really?

      • +1

Doesn't really matter where you buy it, it's still serviced by Apple or an authorised repairer.
