  • Hi Rep,
    Saw this refurbished :
    Argus Pro Kit v3 (Refurbished)
    I got Argus 3, what is main difference between these 2? Which is latest?
    Does Argus Pro Kit v3 (Refurbished) take memory card?
    Please confirm.
    Thanks

      Hi there,
      Argus Pro Kit v3(Refurbished) is the version of Argus Pro; which is a different product from the Argus 3.
      Argus 3 is newer than Argus Pro Kit v3(Refurbished) ;
      It supports a memory card, but the package does not include one.

    Hi rep, Any idea when the doorbell is available?

    • +2

      Messaged reolink Australia on Facebook and confirmed local Aussie stock will be available late April.

  • hey Rep, why are the POE PTZ models so much more expensive than the wifi models?

    • Hi there,

      Now The WiFi version is at the best price with 35% off that never ever offered before, while the PoE version is a brand-new product without any discount, so it looks like a big balance between them.

  • They have refurbished NVRs for $209.99 delivered. https://reolink.com/au/refurbished-products/ Hardware version is unknown. Good price for a backup or someone starting out cheap.

  • I've been using Reolink but TBH I regret buying into their ecosytem - a real pain to use with Blue Iris or Frigate. So many threads filled with tweaks and gotchas just to get the things to work at a basic level.

    • Is there free NVR software available?

    • I see less need for Frigate and Blue Iris when the camera's own person/vehicle detection is so reliable and basic local storage via NAS or their NVR is easy and quite affordable.

      Notifications from on-camera person/vehicle detection work nicely with "Home Assistant in my experience.

      • How is writing to the NAS supported? Do the cameras support SMB and just write files to a directory?

    • I was just about to make a purchase for reolink cameras to use with blue iris. Can you outline the issues people have faced, or provide some good links?

      Seems there are issues, but most are fixed or worked around;

        Rob from the Hook Up (your last link) is a very knowledgeable guy and is a very reliable source of technical information on cameras. If he says it's okay, it's probably okay.

        Some of the older Reolink camera models didn't support RTSP and ONVIF, and I suspect that's the reason why the OP is having trouble.

        • Thanks mate, good to know. I've subscribed to that fellow and ordered a bunch of refurb 810As.

    • That's where I think sticking with their NVR solution is simpler, unless their is a reason not to use it. I would have thought that ONVIF features would make recording to a server easy. I don't own Reolinks just yet but I am considering getting some. Not too sure on the NVR yet though - thinking that I can save onto a home grown VM server instead

  • I'm looking for a new cctv to plug into my synology & work with home assistant.
    Reolink 5mp or 4k?
    5mp seems to be on the lower end nowadays? Is there a reason for this middle size?

    • Im no expert, but i imagine it depends on your setup.

      8MP is 4k, and thats expensive to store and transcode. If you've got lots of cameras you're probably recording the substream at a much lower resolution (<720p), and then using some kind of AI to only record the main stream (1080p/4k) when something of important is detected. you also want to avoid having to transcode, so ideally whatever resolution your camera is putting out on its 2 streams are the ones you want to store. E.g. Your mainstream maybe 4K and stored at 4K only on AI detection. Your sub stream maybe 600p, and stored at 600p all 24 hours with 30 days retention. If you need to transcode the 4k down to 1080p for storage, thats going to chew a lot of CPU and power.

      If your setup is not that advanced and you're also covering smaller areas where the additional resolution is not critical, a 5mp camera is perfectly fine.

      • So mainly storage? I have a nas so unlimited.
        I've had many times my 720p can't resolve a person's face, but I guess there's motion blur too.

        • Throughput as well. More than a few 4K streams will tank most storage solutions and network cards.

          • @Kill Joy: Even plugged into ethernet? I have not set up nas4 cameras before so I don't really know how it all works.
