$500 Driving Credits with 2 Months Expiry (New Customers Only) @ Uber Car Share (Formerly Car Next Door)

670
ONEUCS134

A slight variation to this deal here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/762652 which is a new code that gives $250 of credits instead of $200, but I found out that if you enter the code during sign up - you get $250 credits, then enter it again when making your first booking, you get another round of promo credits, resulting in a balance of $500 credits worth to expire in 2 months from joining date.

There was a third field to enter a promo code during the licence validation checks which I didnt try - but give that a go and report back if you get a total of $750 credits. Reported to not work

I have tested this myself with the standard $200 code UCS134 and gotten $400 in credits, and this works with this $250 code too as confirmed below by sweetss. I've completed my first booking and had no issues using these credits.

Driving credits is automatically applied to hourly usage, km usage but expect a fully refundable $150 deposit to be charged on your first booking and refunded after the first booking has completed (you might need to manually hit the withdraw button in the app otherwise it sits as a separate balance to the credits).

A warning about the "price" you are quoted at point of booking by Danmc181 - TLDR price quoted at point of booking is not the same as the one you pay at the end.

Promo code must be entered by 30 Apr 2023.

  • ok im dumb where to enter the code during sign up?

    • I did mine via the app, and on the "Sign Up" page where you are to enter email & password, right at the bottom with 'Have a promo code?' - below sign up with google or uber, and right below "By signing up, you agree to receive account updates, offers, and other notifications from uber yada yada'

      • Thank you wasnt showing up on desktop

  • Not sure if it's a bug but great found

  • Added drivers licence but no bonus appeared. Also do you have to go through with the trip to get the bonus?

    • takes a couple of hours for them to 'verify' your driving licence. you'll get an email. check back then.

the bonus is applied to your account, showing a balance. it expires 2 months from date of joining. when booking your trips - it will apply the credits first.

Wow got declined that's definitely a first.

    • Same here. Not sure if it's because I have a moustache in my licence photo and no longer do. Can't for the life of me figure out any other reason why

  • Does it work or any deal for existing users?

  • Account restricted which is nice…

  • I think its only for new user.

Avoid Uber Car Share at all costs, frequently used CarNextDoor but will never use it again. Booked a car confirming the daily rate + the (exorbitant) km charge in the booking confirmation, when the final payment went through after the booking ended it came to almost double the cost. This is the response I got (poor grammar and wording is theirs):

"I understand how confusing it is but thanks for letting us know because I can absolutely explain it to you. the $50 per day rate in your confirmation is a price as "From" this indicates it is the lowest available rate and that the actual rate for the days or times you choose will be higher.
It went high because this vehicle has a peak rate as well since you booked it on a Holiday."

There was no mention of any on/off peak rate or dates, and the booking page and confirmation clearly showed the exact price it should have been. Consumer Affairs agreed and thankfully I was compensated after fighting for it, but beware. The prices listed on their bookings and confirmations are merely a "suggestion" that they happily change any time after you've booked without any notification.

Thanks for letting us know, that seems like such a scam.

Big company buys a decently run and popular startup, proceeds to drive it into the ground.

Just like the Bebo founders. They sold for a motza, it eventually died and then they bought it back for $1 just for laughs.

    • As a car owner I can change my rate anytime but it can't be applied to the ongoing booking. Strange what happened in your case.

Also you can get the car owner's contact details once you've made a booking if you have questions. I happily give repeat borrowers a discount if the previous experience was good

This is excellent advice. Having done a quick search in the App to see vehicles in my area, I can see what you're talking about - the "From" price routinely being half of what the actual price is. And at the rates they want to charge, I'm better off going to a proper car rental joint.

Only if it did not need credit check….

Had a nightmare experience with these guys also -recommend not worth the trouble of getting the credit check and booking a car. I booked a van to help me move a bbq. Went to get the van at the address and it simply didn’t exist. Tried unsuccessfully to get in touch with Uber at this point with no response. Yet Uber somehow marked that I had picked up the keys and my trip was active. So they were charging me for the non-existent van. Then there was no way to cancel in the app - tried calling Uber, using their chat, etc and no one knew what was going on. After my booking time had finished, it marked the car as though I hadn’t returned it. So the app was flagging that the car was late, I would be charged extra, etc. I ended up getting through to the Uber helpline and marked the car as returned, but didn’t refund my money. I ended up having to do a credit card chargeback and eventually got the money back, but was all around a terrible experience. Ended up booking a truck from coles express to pick up my BBQ that was easy as!

      sad to hear.
what is coles express car hire?

      • +1

It’s called ‘move yourself’ I’m not sure if I can post a link here. The ones in my area are at typically at coles express but they are at other petrol stations too.

For the record, if you want a proper carshare, sign up with Goget, flexicar, popcar, or kinto (in Melbourne) - probably in that order. Unless you live in an area which they don't have any cars.

I wouldn't use this if not for the free credits, but this has come in handy (free) as I did use a van last weekend to move a set of drawers.

My observation is that most the cars on here are very old, and some very sketch looking. The kind where people don't really care if someone bangs it up. The few newer ones are exorbitantly priced.

Side note, has anyone tried putting their own car for rent, pricing it exorbitantly, and just getting their partner via these credits to rent back the car therefore getting paid to use your own car?

  • +1

Are there any yellow ferraris on there that I can rent for less than $500? Thanks.

  • i used to have account with car next door. so would you work if i register with new email?

  • Do driving credits remain after first trip?

    • yes. up to the expiry date of 2 months, its not a 1-time-use.

  • i used the ONEUCS134 code to sign up but only got $50 driving credit

  • I think the code expired now :(

    • mm when i log out and enter the code on the sign up page - it still says "$250 credit will be added after you've been verified"

  • +1

The code ONEUCS134 worked for me just now. I got $250 when I signed up as a new user, applying the code at that time. Then I applied it again when I made my first booking and got another $250.
Many thanks to @lawyerz for finding and posting this!

  • There was a third field to enter a promo code during the licence validation checks which I didnt try - but give that a go and report back if you get a total of $750 credits.

Tried adding a code but didn't get any extra credit. Although, uber pulled their classic and there were a few hiccups in getting my licence validated for no apparent reason

They called me to verify even after i uploaded multiple 'clear' pictures of my licence front n back over 3 times. Replied to their email as well with clear photos.

  • Is this just for first booking, or can it be spread to 2 bookings?

    • As many bookings as you like within the first 2 months up to the credit balance of $500

  • need a selfie verification during the sign up>?

  • Avoid at all costs.
Check product review for more info: https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/car-next-door
    Reasons:
    - Car Next door provided a faulty car (leaking engine oil etc)
    - Car Next Door gave my address to the car owner without my permission (they said they won’t give any details out)
    - car owner rocked up at my house when car next door told me to organise towing with NRMA.
    - Car Next door promised full refund
    - Had no issues withdrawing the booking fee. But when I was withdrawing my fuel reimbursement I encountered an error.
    - went through a jungle to try get refund. Finally received it. Then got an email saying Car Next door tried processing money out of my account.
    - My bank confirmed their unethical actions. Spoke to FairTrading, police NSW etc about trying to get my account deleted as my driver license is on there. Police informed me it is like hitting brick wall situation as I signed up.
    - Lucky they couldn’t take money from me but many people reached out saying they lost $1000 etc.
    - only thing car next door could say was: they double refunded me. Nothing in bank statements. Closed my bank account the same day & they continued process charges for over a year.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. PURE SCAM. After uber bought car next door, I started getting emails from ARMA debt collection (amount higher than my fuel reimbursement)

    AVOID!
Made an account just to warn people.

    • Can agree with this statement visiting from NZ and had a terrible experience as well
      - Car had a dead battery 3hrs in and had to spend 6 hrs dealing with roadside service after they arrived saying "we cant fit it as its not been approved because the car is registered in QLD not NSW"
      - car had 0KM Range of fuel ie empty tank lucky there was a petrol station 500m down the road but not the best experience.
      - Owner was overseas and was a pain to communicate with when the car did break down in a woolies carpark.
      - Cannot refund my fuel re-reimbursement (its in my account and approved but just errors out)
      - They issue driving credits but thats a whole load of use for a tourist
i have changed the credit card to a dud one when the toll invoices come thru and they probably cant do much

  • Interesting, I had an account with Car Next Door back in 2021, It appears they transferred my account details (including password) from CND to UberCarShare (without my consent): As a result, even if the Discount code at sign-up showed "$250 pending account verification", I only got $100 driving credit.

On top of Uber refusing prepaid cards (Mine is giving me 3% cashback so it is annoying),
on top of charging for basic insurance,
on top of charging for milage per km driven,
on top of having limited availability…
I'll take my 3 week rental to Europcar!

  • Double credit didn't work for me. I entered it at sign up and during first booking, but after my account was verified, I only got $250 minus cost of first booking.

    • Maybe it's fixed now. I'll mark this as expired if I can get someone to second this.

  • +1

Yeah same only got one $250 credit

    • thanks, marked expired now.
