make sure you check the price WITHOUT go through CR and SB , sometimes prices are jacked.

correct .. one of the method to avoid overwhelming choice is to save as favorite .. then you could go back in quickly to compare … I did this and notice price the same .. hence taking advantage on the CB. If price changed, abandon cart

Upvoted and commenting to highlight this exact point. Utterly outrageous conduct on the part of booking.com

in my case it was the same price. Winner winner!

    • My price went up by $10 but was worth is anyway since I got $75 tracked cashback.

  • Just in time for booking accommodations for our Jetstar Japan trip! Thanks, OP.

same here. I was checking hotels in Tokyo last night however the price are definitely jacked.

make sure sign off Booking App to re-check the price.

      • Thanks for the heads up! I booked that "strange" dinosaur robot hotel for the full time we'll be there, but after being told it's too far from everything else in Tokyo, I'll split the stay between there and somewhere closer to the Yamanote line.

        • +1

I tend to stay in Ueno for the transport connections but the Shinjuku/Shibuya side of the Yamanote line is good too.

i booked some accom in Europe a while back but haven't paid yet. Can i go in and pay for the accom now and still get the cashback? I know i could just cancel and rebook but the prices have gone up a fair bit from when i originally booked.

    • Very good question! I've got a booking through Booking.com I'm yet to pay too.

    • +1

The booking has to be made AFTER clicking through shopback. As they will link the click to the booking number. So no, that won't work.

Rebooking is the safest way. But all depends on how much you save now vs how much the price has gone up.

      • Thanks for clarifying. No use rebooking as i booked last year (Munich, Oktoberfest) and the prices have (as expected) gone up by about $800.

  • I have booking wallet travel credit. Will this affect my cashback?

  • I literally booked $2500 worth of accom last week…. could have pocketed $325 if i waited until this week.

Luicky my bookings are free cancellation… but hoping prices havent increased and the room will be available once i cancel them and rebook immediately.

    • Keep us posted.

    • +1

Maybe try rebooking first then cancel the existing booking rather than cancel and risk not getting a room?

      • Sensible.

      • Just tried, looks like most of the rooms I booked were the last ones. I search again in incgonito and there's no availablity for the specific room I need.

Do not use cash rewards and booking .com.

I saved $500 by calling the holiday park directly to book my holiday during the holiday break

    • +1

This is a ShopBack deal, not a CashRewards deal.
      Why are you negging?

    • +6

Ok, we won’t use Cashrewards in this Shopback deal

      • Same shit even going directly to booking.com is more expensive then the cash rewards have an even higher price probably same with this kickback

  • +2

Can confirm checking hotels without shopback it was $386 and with it, you pay $450. After the cashback it is $393. This sort of thing should be illegal.

    • Why are people so Salty AF here when I stated this same thing. Call the hotel acs I guarantee you it will be even cheaper

      • Its Japan gurly….can't call. My salt is directed at Shopback and Booking.com

        • Not you but the people above

I'm soooo (negatively) surprised to see the folks at Shopback & Booking.com advertising a great cash-back deal only to jack up their prices.

I was waiting for this deal to book a stay - when tracking with Shopback the price goes up from $610 to $640, yes I'm still better off after 12.5% rebate but this truly feels like ACCC material. Would love to see a comment from Shopback on the subject.

  • Was tempted to book again through Booking.com and if it tracks cancel booking previously made direct with resort, but think I'll stick with what I have already.

Rate through Booking.com is $300 more than going through resort, but if the cashback tracks and is paid out I would expect to end up $450-500 ahead after cashback…

It's enticing, but not sure I want to get too cute about all this and start messing with bookings. It's a nice saving at 12.5% CB, but that will take anywhere from three to four months to come through post-stay anyway.

Anyone from the hotel industry know if they favour allocating the best rooms to those who book direct, compared with these go-between services, or purely luck based on comings and goings?

  • Screen shot the evidence and place a complaint with ACCC
