These run very hot when copying large files and transfer speeds will throttle significantly.
Any other flash drives you could recommend that don't suffer this issue?
Most drives that have a bigger body won't have this issue since there is actually space for heat to dissipate

I can't believe these guys still run hot. I bought a couple like 5+ years ago and ran into the overheating problem (they'll throttle and sometimes even just disconnect). I swapped to the Samsung Fit Plus drives that don't have any of these problems.
If you are worried about heat, consider the Ultra Luxe with metal body. 256GB for $33.90 from Catch marketplace, appears to include shipping.
Can probably try price beat at OW for $32.21.

Thumb drive like this small size are all HOT, no matter which brands they are.

How is this for a cheap way to have an extra backup of photos for long term storage? Main backup is an external WD HD.
wouldn't be large enough. My photo backup is about 2 TB. Just get two large drives. backup and keep one at the office. Another at your parents place.
I use this to backup my Windows 10 Bitlocker key and keep it in my keyring.
no harm in backing up your password vault keys also.

Good if you have a car with a stereo with a usb port on the front. I like the loop as you can attach a cord as some small usb can be tricky to get out. But yes, I had a 32gb (lost it somewhere) and it ran hot.
