Insurance - Car Assessment Report

Not sure if this is the best place but hopefully someone in the insurance world can help me.

I have been the victim of a not at fault insurance accident.

I had to wait 3 weeks for the at faulty parties insurance to admit liability and then the panel shop with my car was able to boot an assessment report.

How long do assessment reports take, it's now been another 2.5 weeks and I'm just wanting an outcome of if my car is a write off or not.

So 5.5 weeks into a claim with no idea on outcome. Is this normal in the insurance world?

Update
Hi ,

Just to advise I actually got a response this week from the 3rd party. So yes 5.5 weeks for an assessment a normal amount of time for a assessment report.

I would just make the claim through your own insurance, and provide all the details of the other party. Make sure you get a rental that they charge to the other party!

My own insurance racv(silver member full comp) has been useless, which is why I have ended up in this spot. Lucky I don't need a rental so I can just share with other half.

      • +3

your car might get fixed quicker if you get a rental because it will cost them more money the longer it takes to fix

        • Thanks for the idea!=

@primal89: Definitely hit them up for a rental. Say you’ve been coping for now but it’s now too difficult to share.

How bad is your car? Driveable, or likely a write off?

So you only have 3rd party insurance then?

        • No I have full comp, When not at fault you can go privat.

          • +3

@primal89: Dunno why you wouldn't just use your own comprehensive insurance. Now you're in this situation.

            • -2

              @kerfuffle: AS stated, complete useless

            • @kerfuffle: Learnt this the hard way due to the current car market.
              Agreed value vs market value.
If written off your own insurance policy will only pay you out at the agreed value even if you're not at fault.
At the moment agreed value is less than market value in many instances.
So if you claim against the other parties insurance you can get market value if you're not at fault.

That's your fault for having agreed value for your comprehensive. I had market value on mine and got paid out market value when my car was written off via my insurance policy in April 2022.

                • @kerfuffle: Yes. But that is why you would claim on the other parties insurance.

                  • @dasher86: Bold move to assume the other party actually has insurance.

                    • @kerfuffle: Well if they didn't you'd suck it up and go with your own.
The point was, why you wouldn't claim on your own insurance.

          • +6

@primal89: If you have full comp insurance and not at fault, then lodge a claim with your company and get your car fixed. That is what you are paying them for. Your insurance will deal with the other party to recover the money.

        • Says full comp. Maybe they tried to charge the OP excess like when I was in an accident and it was hard to determine fault (I got my excess refunded after five months)

          • @kerfuffle: As stated, RACV have done nothing, completely useless.

            • @primal89: What do you mean, have done nothing? That comment says nothing.

I have NRMA full comp and they've never been useless in the five times I've had to make a claim against the other party as a not-at-fault

              • -3

@kerfuffle: Well NRMA isn't RACV, I have a claim that they have done nothing.

Anyhow Threat is about assessment report times.

                      You missed the joke

@primal89: Well I've made 2 not at fault claims with RACV in the last 3 years. I just give them the claim number from the other party and just sit back and read the occasional text message from RACV telling me where to be and when. So bloody simple it couldn't be any easier. They have been awesome.

What specifically are they making hard for you?

                  • -1

@MS Paint: I got a Claim number, car was towed from the scene. Nothing since.

I wish it was like your explaining.

@primal89: Get on to the phone today with RACV and request an update and future plan for repairs. I'm guessing the other party are dragging their heels.

                    • +2

@primal89: Have you tried picking up the phone and calling them?

            • +1

@primal89: You don't have to pay an excess if you're not at fault

      • +1

I am with the same provider. last time i had an claim, it was settled quite quickly. but this was pre COVID. interesting to know they are not very helpful!…

  • What sort of car do you have?

    • -5

      a red one

      • +5

Oh, cool.. That narrows it down… I know from first hand industry insider knowledge, all red car parts are on back order, and are still affected by COVID shortages… Silver and white cars are fine…

        • +3

To be fair the red car is faster so likely more damage from the impact.

          • +2

@MS Paint: Can confirm; my old car that got written off was red

Lose the attitude mate, people are just trying to help
Why even bother posting if you're going to reply with smart ass comments like this??

        • -1

The poster is well known to me , hence the reply.

      • +4

No wonder your insurance, the panel beaters, your workmates are all less than willing to help. Your attitude sucks.

I guess this is Karma 🚗💥🤣😂
Note the crashed car emoji is red, like your car

Looks like a titanium exhaust flame throwing Italian hypercar to me.

this thread is useless without a paint drawn diagram

  • +3

OP rings insurance company “I would like to make a claim”
Insurance company “what car have you got?”
    OP “a red one”
    crickets

    • "Why are you asking so many questions? Useless!"
