    Top 3 on 3DS.

I would assume ATTLP is fine on that as well, but its also been on every Virtual Console + the Switch + the SNES Mini.

So you may already have it. Might as well grab it on the 3DS for consistency and portability if not.

    • I have a Switch but I think I can’t buy it outright I need to rent it via the switch online service

When you said top 3 on 3DS what did you mean?

      • I mean, the Oracle games + Link's Awakening DX.

        • Ahh great thanks good to know

Zelda A Link to the Past (SNES)

On an OG SNES and CRT TV.

    • Don't forget to use a SCART cable

  • Get a 3DS, run custom FW, download roms and emulator

  • If you’re going to consider Rom then my vote is for 351mp

  • Also does the shop close tomorrow meaning I can still purchase tomorrow the 27th of March or does it close as of the end of the 26th of March

Best to just buy it tonight to be safe

  • Zelda A Link to the Past (SNES)

do you have a SNES or SFC ? If so you can find a cartridge, lots of SFC cartridges from Japan are now available :D

    • Nah I don’t anymore

  • Zelda Oracle of Ages (Gameboy Colour)
Zelda Oracle of Seasons (Gameboy Colour)

I think they're technically on Switch too? I seem to remember playing oracle of seasons.
But otherwise yeah i think 3DS is the next best bet for them as you have a good screen and fun to play. Another alternative would be a modded gameboy with a screen mod (or GBA) at least for me.

The best way to play those GBC games is probably on an Analogue Pocket or similar emulation device. It feels authentic on a gameboy shaped console, but has a modern screen. Otherwise just emulate them all on your computer and buy a wireless gamepad.

Depends on what you mean by "better" and how much you are willing to spend in pursuit of that. It also depends on why you're playing the games - are you playing them for the story, or are you looking for nostalgia and to recreate what it felt like to play these games back in the day?

Obviously, the most authentic way of playing them is on original hardware. It's easy enough to pick up used GBCs (or even GBAs that can play GBC games), and SNESes. These were all very popular consoles. As long as you're fine with not getting boxes, original accessories, or perfect physical condition, this will all be relatively affordable.

However, "authentic" may not be best. Do you want to go back to using a non-backlit GBC screen now that you're used to large, bright displays? You can try retro consoles that will give you a much better experience, e.g. an Analogue Pocket, but be prepared to pay through the nose.

Ultimately you could just get the ROMs and play them that way (and buy the original games too if you're concerned about the legal aspects).

I was just thinking of getting them on the 3DS rather than original consoles. I wish I could get them on the switch but I’d rather own then rent to be honest.

It’s either the above which is gonna cost me approx $40 or using OpenEmu on my iMac to play them

I don't think you really "own" the games when you buy the digitally anyway.
