I have had the first edition for about a year and a half now and these are the things I have found:
Battery life is still great, but that month-long life lasted about 3 months. Now it sits steady at about 3 weeks on one charge, still great but a decent drop for only a year.
The solar is not worth the extra spend unless you work outside majority of the time, funnily enough the week I lost in battery life was gained with time spent outside - I did a few months 80% of my time was outside and I noticed real world difference but when I was back inside most of the day it didn't do much for extending the life.
If you are on iOS the experience is mostly smooth, a couple times a month I have to disconnect and reconnect the watch but aside from that it works well
The compass and coordinates have been useful several times in no reception situations, even to save pulling out the GPS whilst moving.
the charger plug has begun to get a bit funny, kinda similar to how micro usb goes after a while - wobbly and certain angles will stop the contacts from connecting, I have woken up a few times with an uncharged watch - not a huge deal cause I only do it once in a blue moon but a small frustration.
Storm mode does work quite well when camping but I find it can trigger during a shower or getting into an airconditioned car etc so it remains off when not bush.
I read pulse ox is improved on this model somewhere, hopefully its significant cause on mine it takes about 5 minutes to analyse and yells at me for moving when I am sitting dead still
Overall I love it cause it cops a whopping at work and what not and still looks presentable enough to wear daily, the battery life is amazing(I have a pet hate for short battery life wearables). I wont upgrade for a while but I will stick to this line until apple comes up with a long battery life watch - at least a week. I bought this as someone who prioritised battery life and simplicity, the smartest my watch needs to be is vibrate for notifications and calls and tell me the time/date lol. The suite of fitness stuff is pretty good and last time I checked minimal paywalling.
