Best Headphones for Voice Calls in Noisy Areas?

Really struggling here - I've probably tried a dozen options with no decent solution. In my line of work, I am on the phone almost all day. I would like the freedom to talk on the phone on the way to and from the office which for me involves walking through the city with lots of traffic, noise, wind and people.

I find the bose 700's ones are pretty good at blocking out office background noise and wind to some degree - but it amplifies traffic and other people talking when in public.

Does anyone have any experience with good options? I wouldn't even mind wired options (I find bluetooth a gamble when I'm on a google meets call etc and when the phone rings, most blutooth will prioritise the phone call and cut off the zoom call completely)

Caveat - I refuse to use any Apple related products.

In ear, over ear, connected, wireless - I am willing to try anything (except maybe call centre style headsets)

Any suggestions appreciated

    AirPods Pro 2.

Though if you refuse to buy Apple products then you probably don't own an iPhone, so you won't get the most out of them with Android.

Do you mean you can hear traffic or other people talking, or people on the other end of the line can hear too much background noise from your mic?

Maybe check out something like this. It has noise cancellation but the mic is also noise cancelling.

  • AirPod Max probably.
A more sensible/cheaper option would be the Bose 700.

The QC 4's okay, but the Sony XM5 still has a weak microphone. Stay away from the Sony XM4, XM3, Bose QC 3ii, etc etc… all have bad/weak mics. Also stay away from small earphones like the AirPod's or AirPod Pro, they're even weaker/worse when it comes to noise cancelling and having a good speaking microphone.

I'm sure there's plenty of PC Headsets which do a better job at the sound and microphone, though they're wired and powered. But you won't get ANC. Practically speaking, it probably doesn't matter much unless you're in a construction zone, or ticked off the cleaning lady, or live in downtown Beijing.

I thought Sony XM5 would be an obvious answer here. Checkout some of the reviews that demonstrate just how effective they are at blocking out ambient noise during calls.

  • Poly/Plantronics voyager 5200 will do what you want.

  • Would not recommend Bose for calls and I’m a huge Bose fan.
I’ve had the QC earbud 2 for almost 3-4months and am sad to say I’m every disappointed when it comes to voice calls, people always complain they can barely hear me!

Another nod for the Plantronics Voyager 5200 (USB edition), great when connecting to team calls via laptop.
Also connects well to phones via laptops comes with a handy charge case.

  • One option worth considering is the Edifier W240TN, which many have praised for its performance during calls. If budget allows, the Soundcore Anker Space A40 is another top choice for stellar call quality and superior functionality.

    • How are you sure that these have better call quality than the Sony and Bose and Google alternatives (that don't rate very highly)?

      • Few of my friends who have tried them believe they are worth the money.

the best would be the wired one come with your phone, the mic is much closer to your mouth,

Phones don't come with wired headphones anymore

  • some of the SoundPeats ones seem pretty good for this…check out some of the Youtube reviews, and they are all under $100…I can't remember which model it was, but one of them cut out pretty much all background noise and was good for wind factor as well

  • sony xm5
