  • damm got it in FEB for 3600 and I thought that was a good price with a RRP for 4500

    • Same I got one off Amazon - would anything bad happen if I were to return it and get this one? I’m within a month…

  • +2

Just picked one up - Thank you!

Also called into my local Camera House and confirmed that because the eBay store is run by their parent company, local stores can't honour the deal

    • +1

Same as any eBay deal, eBay kick in a good part of the discount. I've never heard of any retailer matching (their own) eBay deals in-store.

      • Flagged associate as I work in a store, but am not a rep.
      • Do you happen to know when the sale ends? Looking at refunding mine on amazon and picking this up but don’t know how long amazon takes to refund stuff etc

    • Now I need to pick out a lens!

24-240mm IS USM has my eye - I've sort of ruled out going for the 24-105mm with this purchase as the package deals out there atm are better than buying separately

    • What lens are you using?

      • I've been using the EF-S 18-135mm STM on a 80D for 90% of my shooting.
Considering I'm going from a 1.6x crop factor body to a full frame, the 24-240mm maps quite nicely!

  • Christ that's an amazing price.

R6II user here; can attest it's a great camera especially at that price, though I personally prefer the colour of the original R6 more.

    • What lens do you use?

      • As crazy as it sounds my current walk around is the brick 28-70 f/2…I did also not long ago replace my 16-35 f/4 with the 14-35 f/4.

All my other lenses are EF including the incredible Sigma 105 f/1.4 and 14 f/1.8.

  • OOS

  • I am glad I didnt see this earlier……well, my credit card is. Although I do need a backup body….

  • What’s making everyone choose this over an A7IV? Or spending $1400 more for an A7V?

When you factor in the RF lens, the price is much closer to an A7V.

    What lenses are people getting?

Still trying to make a decision.

    • They prefer or have Canon glass or are loyal to the brand?

The a7Riv has a better sensor and e mount has a much wider lense range, especially third party which is the most important factor imo.

      • Yeah that’s what makes it so difficult to justify Canon, even at this price.

      • The a7Riv has a better sensor …

Sony a7r IV and V are in the higher resolution sensor category, at the expense of lower maximum ISO. They compete with the Canon R5, not R6 range.

        • Sorry, I meant a7IV, not the R.

What’s making everyone choose this over an A7IV…

This comparison may help, depends on what features most important to you.

The Canon EOS RF-EF adapter allows you to use the large range of existing EF lenses. You can easily get it on sale under $160. I have used it, it worked very well, even with third party EF lenses from Sigma, Zeiss and Voigtlander…

    • Life time Canon shooter here. For quite a while both Sony and Nikon were producing technically better cameras than Canon; as matter of fact when people asked me for advice on what camera to choose I actually steered them towards other brands for the fact that they were definitely offering more for the money compared to the Canon. The reason I stayed with Canon was because Sony and Nikon just did not gel with me when it comes to ergonomics and I had (have) quite a decent investment in the Canon ecosystem, also I just preferred the look of Canon files (poor shadows/dynamic range aside which no longer is an issue anyway). Ultimately I felt what I had with Canon wasn't really stopping what I was doing so I never felt the need to swap despite the other brands offering more.

Now with the R3/R5/R6 etc things have changed dramatically. Sensor quality is as good as competition (saying Sony sensor is better is like saying 100 is a bigger number than 98, IMHO), the auto focus system is class leading and while there are not as many lens options natively as say Sony there are some genuinely innovative and practical lenses such as my 28-70 f/2 and if not the EF adapter works like native. Not allowing third party lens makers access to the RF mount is a dog move though I agree.

I don't think you can go wrong with anyone really, technology's so good now any camera can take a good photo. I think it's more about your actual enjoyment of using a particular system more than who's got a better spec sheet.

      • Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I would absolutely want to purchase this with the lens you have but the lens is worth more than the body!

Let’s say I nabbed this deal and bought that lens, it would be:
        R6 ii - $3099
        28-70mm f2 - $4250
        Total - $7349

        Vs

        A7IV - $3049
        24-70 f2.8 gm ii - $2200
(I have both saved in a Sony cart from price matching, so let’s ignore the potential 12-14% cash back as that can be hit or miss)
Total - $5249 - this is a no brainer versus the above… sure I might have to spend more time color correcting in Lightroom, but the autofocus isn’t that far behind canon.

        Vs

        A7RV - $4844
        24-70 f2.8 gm ii - $2200
(Same price match cart as above)
Total - $7044 - again, this is also a no brainer, the autofocus on this is unreal, the crop factor, the upgraded screens…. Not to mention this lens is supposed to be amazing… now I get that it’s not f2, but that lens is almost 1.5kg and huge versus 695 grams and compact.

I don’t know, you can probably see why it’s such a big decision and why it’s so hard to choose cannon.

I’ll suss out your Instagram now anyway :)

        • Yea that 28-70 is exy AF, though I only paid like $3650 for it (DigiDirect eBay 20% off sale) and sold my EF 24-70 f/2.8 II to help cover the cost.

That lens really is special though despite the size and weight, images coming out of it looks more like it's from a f/1.4 prime than it does a f/2.8 zoom, if that makes sense.

It's why my 35/50 f1.4's are not getting used these days haha.

          • @basketballfreak6: If I can get the lens at $3650 and the body at $3000, then maybbbbe I could justify it haha.

But yeah heavily leaning towards the A7IV option with the gm ii.
If I get 12-14% cash back, even better

        • +1

Firstly, that's not a like for like comparison. You should compare to the Canon 24-70 F2.8 RF which is around $3200.
Regardless, a pro photographer would look at it differently, they would pay extra for a faster zoom lens. It's tax deductible for their business anyway. They would buy into the system if that's the only way to get that F2 zoom lens. AFAIK Canon is the only one I have seen, having larger mount allows flexibility to design fast lens like this.

    • Price is closer to an A7RV with an RF lens*

  • Great deal.. been thinking of switching from the A7 IV to the Canon.. Shame as I reached out to camera house eBay a couple of days ago asking if they would drop to this price and they said NO..

Of course they lower it the day after and it sells out before I notice.

    • I guess they can afford this much discount because eBay partially contributed.
If you don't want to wait, there are 2 at a similar list price, lesser discount using 5% code from Camera Store.
