  • I wonder what the flights home are worth

    • +1

under $1k if you are willing to spend 4 days or a week + in Hawaii.

My search is return to Syd, but you can change airports

    • cheap deals, just gotta wait for it and grab it quickly.

  • +1

End of the southern hemisphere season. The ships head back up to the northern hemisphere ready for their summer. These are usually decent deals as they just want patronage given they have to make this journey anyway. Might as well make something out of it.

    17 nights for $1000? Wow

  • I clicked on the 'Please see all applicable Terms & Conditions for Promotions Here.' link, and got:

'Sorry, the information is not available at this moment. Try again later.'

Lol. Also, I note that this is a 'one-way' trip, with only 3 days out of 17, plus the 'landing day' spent not totally 'at sea' …

It's still cheap though, if longing around on a cruiser at sea is your thing …

    • -3

Sorry, the information is not available at this moment. Try again later.'

Yet, there are people who are going for it, no matter how crappy and neglected the website is…

Will there be internet on the ship so I can browse bargains?

    • -1

      Generally for a small fee

      • +9

From what I've been told, in fact it's generally sluggish internet for a large fee, charged by the MB (no 'unlimited' option available). But I've never 'cruised' … perhaps more 'cruise-experienced' OzBer's could shed light on this for us?

        • Yes not a small fee last time i was on a cruise…. a large fee per mb as you stated, but not royal carribean though and haven't been since 2015 - so may be better now

        • Went on a cruise last month - internet was either $40 for 24hrs or I think $130 for the entire trip? Speeds were very fast and unlimited.

          • @anishnair: $40 for 24 hours? Wow, that's highway robbery. I wonder how good their onboard IT team is. I might look into becoming a 'professional cruiser', operating as a black-market internet provider onboard. I could use one of those things I've seen on OzB recently that enables you to 'farm out' multiple connections inconspicuously while appearing to be a single user …

          • @anishnair: which cruise line / carrier though?

I could put all my TV and Movies etc on hold but if i couldn't get the best part of 24/7 wifi, I'm not sure a cruise is for me.

I'd pay $130 on top of $1000 for that, you're in one of the most remote places on earth to be fair to them… $40 a day x 17 for $680 for basic internet on top of $1000 kills it.

            • @jonathonsunshine: Q: What internet options are available on board Royal Caribbean cruise ships?
A: There are 2 options to stay connected while onboard.

              1. VOOM Wireless Internet Access (Wi-Fi) All you need is a wireless device with wifi capability.

              2. Wired (iCafes) Internet stations are available onboard, the location of which vary depending on the ship.

VOOM is available onboard all ships fleetwide. Prices for internet access vary and are subject to change. Log on to the to the network ""royal-wifi"" using your device, open your browser and follow instructions to log on.

      • Do you have a discount code for it??

  • +5

    pricing by room category
    Interior $1,000
    Outside View $1,598
    Balcony $1,998
    Suites $3,665

arrive in Hawaii on the 18th.

flight back to Bris on 23rd (18 hours via melb) for $507 (source: sky scanner)

    not too shabby

    • How will you get to Hawaii on 18th if it's a 17 nights cruise?

      • yep, my bad.

I read the itinerary days as the days of the month. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  • -4

id rather pay $500 to fly there in one day but each to their own

    • +6

The attraction here is not 'getting from A to B' dude … this is a 'cruise' offer. If you happened to be wanting/needing to travel one-way to HLL, and liked lounging around on cruise ships for about 14 days, this would be a good way to do it … especially if you weren't simultaneously paying rent back in Oz.

  • +6

If you don't have a visa/ESTA to disembark in Hawaii, do you get the return trip home for free?

    • +2

Hahaha plus a bonus 7 days free accommodation in a Hawaiian Immigration detention jail , free food , though toilet bowl wine is an additional surcharge

      • A month's free detention or no deal

    • No, you get the wonderful gift of not getting to board for a cruise you paid for…
Sometimes cruise lines sort out transit visas on behalf of their passengers with special deals with immigation, e.g. when we stopped at Turkey and Greek Islands part way through a Med cruise, but that's usually where you are stopping for a day, not a destination

    • no, they wouldn't let you board in the 1st place. lol

  • +4

the single supplement on this is really good value. Singles often have to pay double. Based on the cheapest option for this cruise the single supplement is only just under $200.

  • +3

$US16/day in (pretty much mandatory) gratuities adds ~$430 to this price.
    https://www.royalcaribbean.com/aus/en/faq/questions/onboard-…

edit: it looks like they've removed the automatic gratuities (for australian cruises) now
    https://www.royalcaribbean.com/aus/en/faq/questions/tipping-…

    • +6

Yeah it's gone for us. They bake it into the price for Australian cruises.

      • +2

Good. These billion dollar cruise lines shouldn't be begging or forcing people to pay tips.

  • Quantum is a decent ship as well….. Or at least it was when we sailed to NZ on it about 4 years ago.

  • Does it include any food/drink?

    • All food would be included at the majority of restaurants. Some restaurants are speciality and you pay extra for. The normal inclusions though are decent and the menu changes each night. Alcohol you pay extra for. Either PAYG or a drinks package that is a daily fee. Depends on how much you drink as to whether that's worthwhile.

  • We paid full price fir this back in Jan. Final payment due Feb 12. We are shattered that the fare is half what we paid now. We did not realise these trans pacific cruises are so unpolular.
Apparently they usually get a lot of retired people on this type of cruise but covud is still very active on the ships so put those people off.

    • What was the full price if you don't mind me asking?

      • I saw this advertised a lot over the last month or so for around $1500. I guess they still have rooms to fill, so they lower the price evan more

    • Yeah, oldies wouldn't want to have to be airlifted off for emergency treatment - I'd imagine that would cost a tidy sum north of $10K if available at all mid-range

    • Saw the sad news - hope you are okay BargainBenno… re my comment below about the man overboard

  • That during school holiday, pretty good deal

  • +1

Have been watching the repositioning cruises for a while now.

    Be aware:

    • accommodation in Hawaii is expensive
    • flights returning are only cheap on certain dates and if the cruise doesn't line up, you have to either pay $1200+ or stay longer (eating any savings)
    • RCI have recently altered their COVID-19 policy and are aholes to deal with re FCC and refunds
    • I am surprised Hawaian air has direct flight to Syd on 19 April for $1240 one way, where as they sell return ticket for not much more..
So what do you mean reg RCI, is that for Hotel stay in Honolulu?

      • RCI = Royal Caribbean International.

    2 tips:

    1. Inside cabin would be pretty rough if you had to isolate (due to disease or bad weather).

    2. Can take another connecting Cruise to Vancouver (via Alaska) for about the same cost/ duration.

    • Added to this, the flights from Vancouver are around the same price. Go figure.

  • Inside cabins are boring .

    • +2

i enjoy inside cabins, i can sleep. i never hang out in my room and i am always out and about. all i do in my room is shower, change clothes, and sleep. I paid a lot for a suite last time and i never used my balcony or hung out there since im always out.

if you shelter yourself and stay in your room a lot, then balcony cabins are good. but you are missing out on all the great events and stuff going on board if you hide in your room.

  • +3

For $3665, I reckon I'd go whole hog and get a suite. Might as well travel in comfort if you are on for 17 days.

The cruises where they shift between hemispheres at the end of the season are really good value.

We have done cruises with the kids and they love it. If you just want to kick back and do nothing, have entertainment and food on tap, then they are great.

That said, I couldn't think of anything worse than what was happening during the height of the pandemic. That would have been a nightmare scenario.

  • +3

Hopefully this man overboard wasn't a member of the Ozbargain community from this deal….. Australian man overboard on cruise ship bound for Hawaii

Glad I didn't take this up… as they state in the article:

""Passengers are shocked by the ordeal, recounting a "sombre" mood on board the ship as it continues to its destination. "It's a shocking situation to be in," Whittington said.
Thompson said it was "very sombre, very sombre"."

    Not good :(
