I've been looking for the best volume to wattage 100W+ GaN charger for a while. I would get the Anker GanPrime 747 150W as it's ~1.4x more power dense but I don't know when/if it'll release with an AU plug and it'll probably never hit $75 so. Compared to the Anker, this charger supports PD3.1 140W charging and has an extension cord and international adapters (the AliExpress version comes with them).

It has been reviewed by this youtuber (timestamped) who reviews power adapters and it has solid performance relative for its wattage. The idle power is a little on the high side (0.24W) but if you watch the reviews for other chargers in the 100W+ range, they are all around this mark typically due to having Power Factor Correction (necessary for 75W+ chargers) which is why the power quality scores for this charger are so good.

The one without an extension cable and has ratings is also available here but it's more expensive than this one so… just read it for ratings?

Supports the following protocols:
USB-C1 port: PD3.1/ PPS/ PD3.0/ PD2.0
USB-C2 port: PD3.0/ PPS/ PD2.0
USB-A port: QC3.0/ QC2.0/ FCP/ AFC/ AP2.4A/ BC1.2/ PE

    • Just to make sure, this would charge my Mac 1 which is charged by the supplied charger of 140W ?

      • Looks like it would.

Buying one for my China trip, hoping it wouldn't burn the hotel I live.

    • Wont it be cheaper to buy one in China ?

      • +1

Depends what sort of hotel you after. Usually cheaper to burn, just don't get caught.

      • I still need Aussie local warranty!

Sadly power density of that is half of this charger, which is quite unfortunate because the Belkin BoostCharge 65W is the same power density, but I couldn't get that since I want 140W charging. I do like the figure 8 cable though, maybe I'll consider it if this one fails on me.

  • Is there any risk of these cheaper chinese Gan chargers to damage my laptop if I have them plugged in 24/7? I was going to go with a reputable brand like Anker but this seems like a nice option. I need a 100w+ portable charger for my laptop and the charging brick that comes with my laptop is way too heavy.

    • They're probably all made in the same factory or are made with the same chips…

      • Hopefully. I dont really care about the longevity of the charger itself but if theres any chance it's going to damage my brand new $3k laptop that I just bought then I'd rather not risk it. I don't really know how Gan charger technology works

        • Gan is just the chemical its made from which is more efficient and prduces less heat. People are using these to charge all their laptops.. no issues.

      • They're all made in a somewhat limited set of factories, but design and quality control is absolutely a thing.
Company A could ask for "give me whatever you have, whatever is cheap"
Company B could provide a specific set of components, and insist on testing 1 in 100.

One is a lot less likely to damage your device, or catch fire.
