Buying Garmin Watches on Amazon AU but Shipped from Amazon UK? Any Issues?

I have my eye on a garmin watch on amazon AU but it says it ships from Garmin store, through Amazon UK. It is so much cheaper than buying it in Aus, but I am wanting to know if anyone has bought from the UK store and if they have had any issues?

What happens if the product arrives defective and does garmin Australia honour garmin UK warranties?

I have contacted Garmin to find out, but still waiting on reply. Thought I’d ask for first hand experiences.

Thanks

I think I read one issue is on watch maps. The Garmin is only loaded with the maps for the region you buy it in.
I think you can load your own maps on though, but apparently it can be a bit difficult and sometimes incomplete etc (process can be buggy).

    • Thanks. I wondered if there could be a map issue. Not worth the hassle.

  • What did Amazon say when you asked them?

  • I haven’t contacted Amazon yet.
But read some other forums and found 2 other people who had problems with Garmin in Au honouring a warranty for a watch bought from the UK site.
Given the potential problem with maps too, I have decided not to go ahead with purchasing.

I bought a refurbished one from the UK. It doesn't have detailed Australian maps, but you can buy them. In the end I followed this guide and loaded up my own maps. It was actually quite straightforward despite the long instructions.

A while back I bought a Garmin Vivofit Jr 3 for my daughter for Christmas that was fulfilled by Amazon UK. It was actually much cheaper than anywhere else I could find at the time, about $95 (usually RRP $130 to $150).

When it arrived, the box (which was a hexagonal tube) was squashed almost flat, as it only came in a padded bag. Watch itself was undamaged. I jumped onto the chat and said this is not ideal given it was a gift; they refunded the entire thing and said I could keep it! 🤷

    • Wow that is an amazing score

  • Thanks. I have had my eye on the Instinct 2 as it has all the features I need, and the latest sensor. Its down to $343… cheapest I have seen it anywhere. Might bite the bullet and hope there arent warranty issues.

Just be aware only Instinct 2 Solar and Instinct 2 Dezl have NFC pay and all Instinct (1) models do not have NFC pay.

Also not sure if out of region NFC pay works in Australia (specifically adding Australian bank to Garmin Pay on a UK watch).
On another deal I actually found information that said it won't work, but then was corrected by someone in the comments saying "NFC pay works globally". I couldn't get a definite answer to the question IMO which is if you can add your bank card to Garmin Pay which if bought in Australia has a list of supported banks.

      • Thanks. I don't use NFC and didn't want this feature but I know many would want this.

For me, I am impressed with the fitness tracking features and it is the cheapest garmin on the makret with HRV tracking and the latest elevate 4 sensor. Hope it performs as good as the reviews.

I'll be honest I have the cheapest Garmin available and the user experience isn't exactly flawless like most online feedback suggested, but that could very well be because I only paid $132 for the Venu SQ (non music) which is the cheapest one available and still has NFC (Garmin Pay).

Honestly though I think if you are paying $300 to $400 for what is a $500 model, you should have a better experience.

          • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: Yeah I hope so. It retails for $599 and I rarely see it on special. JBHifi etc seem to be actively discounting the watches that are 3-4 years old. For around the same price of the vivoactive 4 in Australia, which is a good but older model, I thought this watch being newer is worth a try.

I actually bought a Fenix 7 from Amazon UK at the beginning of the month… And it's still not here! It's been on delivery date pending for 25 days now.
I called them last week and was assured it would be coming this week.

    • I am having the same problem with my order. Ordered a week ago and no update. Amazon customer service can't provide an estimated delivery date yet. Odd for something that is in stock. If it takes too long I may just cancel it.

    • Did you receive the watch?

Customer service still can't give me an estimate as to when mine might be shipped. Frustrating. So much for having Prime and choosing expedited International delivery lols

Nope! It's status did change to Preparing for Shipment after I posted though.

        • I wonder why they bother advertising expedited international delivery with Prime, and the date on the website is usually 7-10 days away…. but reality is 4 weeks before they even send it lol

@BigMac2000: Got it! Six weeks after my order was placed.

    • It took me 3 months to receive my Fenix 6X (renewed) from the UK. Warning!
