FYI: I have a VPN that works with HBO Max as I tested it on Chrome before, however I would like the ease of it being able to be used on my smart TV. It is known that the app can't be downloaded in Australia, so I'm wondering whether I would need to get a stick such as Google TV, which I can then download my VPN onto and use to watch HBO?
How Do I Watch HBO Max on My TV with a VPN?

Best devices for multi-region apps / services is AppleTV, followed closely by Nvidia Shield
SmartDNS is much easier to configure with these devices rather than a full blown VPN (a VPN will require you to monitor traffic on your router, and divert "HBO" app/traffic via the VPN tunnel - if you divert ALL device traffic via VPN tunnel, you will lose access to apps like AU TenPlay, etc)
For ease of use I flashed a spare Asus RT-AC87U with the ExpressVPN firmware, and connected to main home router. Any device (TV/tablet, etc.) that needs US coverage connects to it.

Is everything on HBOMax also on Binge btw?
No. Also, Binge doesn't do UHD aka 4K.
I have the app on AppleTV. Just sign up for a US apple account then you can download. No VPN required. Probably similar for android based systems. To stream, its easier with a proxy based solution which only requires you to change the DNS. Then you don't have to install a VPN. This works great for AppleTV. Most likely will work for your smart TV too (unless it has hardcoded dns). I have lifetime Getflix and that works well. There are other similar options available, and I think some VPN providers offer it as part of your package.
