Do you live in constant paranoia of where your child may be well this may just ease that anxiety.

Jokes aside this thing is awesome for the in-between of no phone but still contactable.

Not the best price I have seen but still a good deal especially as it comes with the stand charger and an additional band.

Spacetalk have it for $269 without the extras but free shipping.

We have these in the family and while useful find the whole platform a bit disappointing to be honest.

The monthly fees $7/2 devices if not using the overpriced Jumpy SIM Mobile service to have the ability to use the parental controls on the watch is annoying.

I'm considering transferring to a phone with controls or a fully fledged smartwatch on a MDM platform.

    • Oh really. That's actually really good info. What is the thing that has annoyed you the most?

      • Not OP, but I like that we can track the watch's location, limit when calls can be made or received, and set the numbers that can be called and can call it.

Sure the rest of the watch is trash and needs to be charged every night. We gave up on the messaging app and forget video calling. But for a watch that passes under the schools' radar and is not a plaything, it does its job.

It does not have the functionality of an Android/iPhone - but we didn't want that for a 9 year old who just needs to call to say that they are at school or to be picked up.

        • Agreed.
They are a cheaply made device but they do the job pretty well.
You get a reminder notification in the app if you forget to put them on charge which is handy but even if you forget I’ve found a 2 hour morning charge is plenty to get it through the day.
I must also say that I’ve had to deal with their support and it’s been really good so far.
I found that both of our kids watches weren’t alerting the app when they took the watches off so I emailed them and got a response that day.
Turned out they needed to do a software update which came through this week and has fixed the problem. Support then contacted me to confirm it had fixed the problem.

        • Interesting you have to charge every night. My boy's easily goes 2 days. Probably due to cell strength I guess. I set the custom pre-set messages and he likes those. But thing he uses the most is short voice clips as MMS.

Personally I think it's a bit helicopter-parenting. But missus is reassured by it, especially as he now gets bus to/from school on his own.

My only, very very minor, gripe would be that the default GPS sampling rate of 15 minutes sometimes means we get both the "left school" and "arrived home" alerts at same time (yes, could set the sampling rate lower, but can't really be arsed to drain battery faster when we know where he is anyway).

Went with the bundled Jumpy SIM deal which means no monthly app subscription as tbh it seemed an OK deal and just easier.

Customer service was excellent. Either the second dock arrived broken or I broke it trying to clip it into the stand, mailed customer service and they just put one in the post that day.

          App is pretty straightforward.

      • The app for parents is quite intuitive and provides a level of control over the different watch apps during certain times. Saying that, we have the application of the settings to be hit or miss - most of the time it works, but not always.

Battery life is 1 day max if using the recommended 15 min location tracking. No great, but sufficient. The charger is a proprietary charger - not a generic USB-C/Micro.

The speaker on the phone is quite poor, and hard to use in public areas. The microphone is ok but not good enough where there is background noise.

One feature that is brilliant is the rejection/screening of calls/SMS from any number not registered on the control panel.

Overall it is a lot of money for bulky watch with poor user interface. Using it is ok if you have young children sized fingers otherwise it is hopeless!

Good luck - $250+ for the watch, minimum of $7/month dependant on the mobile service provider. Personally I think this is situation dependent, but we will be moving to another solution shortly.

i think good for up to and maybe including year 6, after that kids will move to phones

  • Anyone prefers Moochies over Spacetalk?

    • Everything I read on them just moved me more towards Spacetalk

I have one for my son and we've found it to be an expensive option for a pretty poor user interface. If your child has experience using an iPad/iPhone or similar then they'll likely get frustrated with the UX design. YMMV.

I went with the 2nd hand Apple Watch instead. Works well and Apple's implementation of family sharing is actually good. Only downside is there is only 1 telco (Truphone).

      • The majority of the reviews of truphone look awful, how have you found them?

Seriously!!! Does a kid need this? And why should parents depend on technology to know where their kids are?? Some people should get rid of tech…. put the phone down and start living life. Pffft

    • Not about tracking, more about being able to contact us in an emergency.
