Heck.. bought 1k today from Shopback

  • +1

Maybe the AirBnb gift cards are here to replace the Apple gift cards?

    • +1

I wonder why. Is every company so hungry of cash now? Doesn't smell good.

      • +4

imagine buying gift cards then suddenly they went under

      • +1

yep - retailer(s) is trying to pump up sales by bringing forward purchases

        • +3

Akstually… it's not a sale but a liability for the retailers. But… cash machine goes brrrrrrrr.

  • +2

Can these be used in any country? The T&Cs say Australians residents but nothing about Australian properties only

    • Yeah should be country specific.. A year ago, I tried using USA’s Airbnb GC in Aus and the pin structure was different

      • +12

I was able to use airbnb gift brought in Australia to book accommodation in Indonesia. I think it depends which website domain you're accessing.
Use airbnb.com.au to book accommodation in a different country and it should work.

        • +1

It's global. I am travelling most of the time and there is no situation where credit can't be applied
It's as good as cash on the site

        • If your booking is in a foreign currency like Indonesian Rupiah, and these cards are denominated in AUD, it will perform a currency translation from the gift card balance?

          • @Charlie Dont Surf: That's the thing, your booking shouldn't show a foreign currency if you are going from the Australian domain.

            • @ar7ist: Cheers, I suspected that was the case after I made my post and read it. I've always tended to book in the local currency and take the bank's forex rate, but I might be wrong about that too!

  • Anyone know if Vanilla or Coles $250 (yellow mastercard) works?

    • +1

Vanilla didn't work for me. I've had occasional issues using these online elsewhere too, eg Woolies Insurance.

  • Can this be used to be pay for the remaining balance?

    • -5

      Unfortunately not

    • +3

it worked for me, just go to trips and payments.

    • +2

Yes. It should allow you to change payment method for Payment 2. Always make part payment to take advantage of possible discounted Airbnb gift cards like this one.

      • Thanks for the confirmation. Do I need to load the GC to my account first? I don't see the option to pay using GC when trying to change the payment method on 2nd payment.

        • +3

          Load in account first, correct

These work a little like amazon gift cards

          • @cwongtech: And pay the remainder manually. Don’t rely on it automatically deducting from your balance.

  • Can I add these to an existing booking, where I have paid a deposit, but still have an outstanding amount…

    • +2

Yes, I've done it many times. As recent as last week

    • +1

      Yes

    • +2

Yes but make sure to manually pay using the balance, don’t rely on it automatically deducting from your balance.

      • Just to be clear, assuming I have a balance of $170 for an existing booking, and I bought $500 GC, what will be the steps for payment?

        • +3

Load in the card in the account settings.
Then head over to your booking.
Manually pay remainder at least a day before the automatic payment comes out.
Remaining balance should pay 1st payment of your next booking automatically.

  • Will this be through the giftcard website? Or instores at Coles?

    • +2

This deal is for eGift cards from the website.

For in-store see this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/763622

      • I tried to have a look. But when does it start? I saw that the current Apple cards started at 7am. Safe to assume it's the same?

        • Yes, starts 7am.

  • Do i have to redeem gift card first in order to make the option to pay by Gift Card to appear in the payment page?

There's no option for to pay via Gift Card balance on my page at the moment.

    • They bury the GC claim page in your account settings, rather than at the payment page like everyone else. I swear it’s to help you forget until after you paid with your CC.

  • Can this be used on an upcoming trip (this weekend)?

    • yes

      • Didn’t work for me. If there’s a workaround, I would be most grateful.

“Hi, my name is Angela Airbnb support ambassador.

Unfortunately it is not possible to change the payment method for the reservation HMDWKCP8MP since it is already confirmed and paid.
You can find all the information here:
        https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/1372”

        • I had to cancel my previous booking and rebook using giftcard. Speak to host and see if they can cancel without fees

        • What about using "Pay now" and applying the credits?

        • I've got a 3k balance on stay but don't want to get stuck with 3k of gift cards. Seems others were able to go into manage payment and update payment. Have you tried there? I can see the option to update my payment but haven't purchased any gift cards yet.

          • @F-22: It's fine if you haven't already paid

            • @whitlam: I've paid the deposit.

              • +1

@F-22: You can pay the balance with a GC.

I've just done this for a US trip next week.

                • @whitlam: Thanks, i wonder why it didnt work for dontgooffline.

                  • @F-22: It looks like they had already paid the full balance

                    • @whitlam: Correct. Fully paid. Dead end here unfortunately as the host isn’t agreeing to cancel with no fee so I can rebook. Looks like Airbnb will charge the host a fee even if he separately agrees with me to cancel with no fee.

                    • +1

@whitlam: Makes sense. Thanks for the confidence. I bought 3.3k worth, loaded them up and was able to pay the deposit.

  • +2

Hey coles, shall we do similar stuff for eBay or Amazon? :)

  • anyone know when the 15% discount expires?

    • 28/3 or while stock lasts.

  • Any issues with buying multiple lots of 500 dollar cards?

Site will let you buy one after the other? Airnbnb will let you put them on your account one after another?

    • +4

They used to be decent to use but now they are completely over-priced with ridiculous fees. Not a fan of the role they play in contributing to housing unaffordability either.
Would rather stay at a nice hotel than support them.

  • This aint right. Govt wants to slow down spending so the inflation can slow down interest rates, yet here we are 🤓

  • Not live yet
    Edit: 7am nvm

  • +1

Thanks to this offer but many places are costly on arbnbb then booking.com … !

  • Looks good, planning a road trip next month, some airbnbs look nice around some areas

  • +1

Anyone had experience cancelling a reservation booked using giftcards? Some people have had issues getting their refund a couple of years ago based on online forums/reviews. Wonder if it'd still be an issue

    • +2

I just did it last week and it was very easy, cancelled my reservation and the credit was refunded back to my account in like 5 minutes.

  • Payment stuck on 'loading' for anyone else?

    • Which browser are you using? I use Brave and had to turn shields off (lion to the right of the web address) to make it work.

    • +2

I had the same issue until I disabled my adblocker (Ublock Origin), navigated off the payment screen and back

    • Yep - it was adblockers/filters. Worked fine when disabled.

  • +3

It’s live now. I bought 4 x $500 across 2 transactions. Gift cards received via email and loaded to my Airbnb account pretty seamlessly. The gift cards don’t expire.

    • Yep, worked for me too. Just hoping I'll be able to use them with 2 upcoming stays. I've already paid the deposit for both, just need to use the "pay now" option that sammajohnson has suggested above.

      • @dockersrule pls let us know how you go, noting that @dontgooffline posted above that it didnt work for him

        • +1

I just tried with a $25… there is a setting to apply credits on the Pay Now screen which reduces the amount that is due on the booking. Seems legit. You can even reverse the credit and apply it on a different booking as it's a toggle.

          • @Daibaw: Just tried it on my balance. The toggle's cumbersome and counterintuitive but yeah, the steps worked. Thanks!

  • +2

Going on a 4 month round the world trip in April, this is going to come in handy big time

  • Just bought 2 cards, how do i apply them both to pay for one trip? Seems to be only apply one gift card.

    • I couldn't do on mobile, jumped on my laptop and was able to use 2 credits

  • Anyone confirm if we can use multiple email addresses to receive the gift cards but payment is via the same credit card?

    • Why not just use the same email?

  • Couldn't come at a better time. Had a balance due today and bought 2 gift cards to pay for it. Thank you

    • Idk if this works on an existing booking. Do let us know if youre successful..

      • +1

It worked for me. As long as you still have payments unpaid.

      • Yes, it works for existing booking.

Add gift card to your balance, then go to booking and choose to "Pay now", and select account credit as form of payment

  • Anyone else had cards not working. Bought a couple of lots and have been charged, recieved emails with codes butomha rled and some have not? Airbnb are saying to contact the vendor…

    • Also won't process order for me

    • Went via mobile as other commenters stated and it worked.

  • +1

Can you still cancel a trip and get a refund if it's paid by gift cards?

    • +3

Yes. It will get refunded in credit

  • Is there a time limit / expiry on these

  • +1

    F**k AirBNB. Scourge on society.

  • This pays for my Xmas Airbnb booking. Got $2k worth of cards no problems! Can apply to my existing booking.

    • Did you have to use different email accounts and credit cards to get $2k?

      • +2

No. Same Card, Same E-mail address.

Did the same with the Apple Gift Cards last week. Got 5x$500 cards (Iphone 15 Pro Max or equivalent paid for).
