Awesome. They just finished making the game too.

I'm not sure how to rate this game.
Overall it's quite good but it does become repetitive, and eventually boring. But that does take many hours.

However for $20, its definitely worth it.

Sounds like typical AC over the past decade

      • Not sure what OP was expecting from an AC game.

It's rinse repeat of the same game with different skins/geographies.

        • Not sure why you would assume I expected anything? It was the first AC game I played.

I now have some of the older ones that I heard are quite good and will play them eventually.

          • @bboz: If it's your first entry, it's probably a decently fun game. But essentially if you've played one, you've pretty much played them all over the last decade. The same repetitive missions/side missions are in every AC. Only difference is some minor changes to mechanics and the story but even the story is so so in most entries.

Black Flag is still my favourite by far

            • @phxsun: Hmm, I'm playing Black Flag now after enjoying Odyssey (my first exposure) and trying, but not enjoying, Origins. Both are included in Xbox Game Pass which is how I discovered the franchise.
Black Flag is better than Origins, but the controls and capabilities aren't as good as they were on Odyssey.
I suspect it's a case of PC game ported to xbox where Odyssey might have been more focussed on xbox?

I also purchased Syndicate which I'm yet to try.

            • @phxsun: Yes Black Flag is one I have that I will need to play at some stage.

            • @phxsun:

essentially if you've played one, you've pretty much played them all over the last decade

For real. I feel like I'm only playing them now out of fomo lol

              • @ChillBro: I played them all until Odyssey which I couldn't finish nor did I finish Origins. A few times I was tempted to get Valhalla but I felt it would be a waste of money if it was more of the same and I won't end up finishing it again.

I'll wait for the next one which is suppose to be more focused and less side questy

      • They are all repetitive with a dragged out story. But at least the locations (Ancient Egypt and Greece) and time periods were really interesting. AC Origins and Odyssey were worthwhile to play for the visuals alone. By contrast, Valhalla plays out in muddy medieval England during the Viking raids. Not very interesting.

Here is hoping that they find back to form with future instalments. They could have one play in Jerusalem during the first century AC. Or one with a dark plot that plays out in the 1930s in Nazi Germany.

$24 at Amazon if you prefer your new games sealed: https://www.amazon.com.au/Assassins-Creed-Valhalla-Expansion…

Dawn of Ragnarok expansion is only $20 too: https://www.amazon.com.au/Assassins-Creed-Valhalla-Expansion…

    • Thank you, price matched with JBHI and used a $10 perks voucher I had.

Just make a list of chores to do around the house and tick those off. Same thing as playing this game but cheaper.

I'm holding out for the Complete edition to go on sale. There's just too much DLC with this one. Base game, Dawn of Ragnarok, Season Pass, sheesh! It's death by a thousand cuts. Is that Ubisoft's new Assassin's creed?

    • +1

The original game is way too long, tedious and repetitive anyway so you'll be thanking god that you don't have the DLC

    • The Ireland/France DLCs are very skippable - mostly more of the same stuff.

Dawn of Ragnarok is by far the best and expands upon gameplay mechanics a lot, so if you're going to get any DLC, make it that one.

Free on Gamepass for the Xbox bois

    • +2

Are you saying it's on Gamepass already or hoping it will be on Gamepass soon? I currently have Gamepass Ultimate and it's not there.

      • My bad, got confused with Valhalla and Odyssey.

    • +1

Only Origins and Odyssey on gamepass.

    • "free"

  • Great value, great game.

  • ACV is basically what you get if you took a pretty solid game and padded it out.

It's got a good story and many solid improvements to gameplay over its predecessor but it has quite a lot of content - over 200 hours with DLC included.
A bit difficult to get into with all its bulk but it's a very good game.

    • I can't see myself playing a game for 40 hours. Imagine spent 5x more in a AA Game from a bugged Company? No thanks lol

  • Tempted. Really enjoyed Odyssey and I’m just about at the end.

I could start Origins on GamePass for free, or get this for cheap. Probably won’t play another AC game for about a decade once I’ve burned myself out.

Playing on XSX. Which one to play? I like the look of Origins visuals/setting, but if Valhalla is the better game, or Origins feels dated gameplay wise, then those factors will steer me. Thanks!

      Depends what you like.
      I really loved Odyssey.
Origins seemed a bit boring Visually (hope you like sand dunes!)
Valhalla I played on the free play weekend and thought it was similarly boring Visually (hope you like snow and mud).

I'm currently trying out Black Flag. Seems OK, but you can tell it's an older game graphically and the controls are a little confusing/stilted on xbox.
And I'm yet to try Syndicate which is commonly regarded as the best of the Franchise from my investigations.

    • +1

Valhalla is better in terms of gameplay.

A lot of stuff is improved, e.g. combat, inventory management, open world exploration.

  • :D one of the few games I gave up because it was too boring..
