Why Was My Review Rejected on The JB Website?

Hi all, bought a Samsung A73 from JB, left a 4 star review for other people to see on JB website.
The review got rejected due to "it did not meet content guidelines on this occasion. As a result it can't be published on our website."

I could not google find any "content guidelines" on JB website. Can anyone share any insight to why I can not publish my review?
Given I have seen much worse reviews given to the said product. I have attached my review below.

Buy for the value, All rounder Mid range.
Pro:

  • 2 day battery (6hr+ SOT), Expandable storage
  • 120Hz AMOLED, bright in sun, best in class screen and size.
  • OS update to Android 16 (2025), good longevity.
  • Snappy for all apps, except high demanding games.

Cons:

  • No headphone jack, No wireless charging
  • Don't expect much from the 108mp camera, much worse than 12mp iphone pics.
  • Not worth it at retail, should be $500 in 2023 to be competitive against OPPO etc.
  • Not much accessories/cases options compared other popular phones, have to them buy online.

Overall, a decent phone if you can get a discount. A73 overlaps with the S21FE price range, targeted to average users.

  • I understand JB as a company can decide what do with its website, however, curious to what was in my review which "triggered" the rejection

Perhaps I am just wasting my time? 😅

Possibly this line? I can only think perhaps they don’t want price suggestions as it will possibly stop people purchasing. Maybe try without?

    • Interesting, I wonder if it is against an actual guideline to not list a price or insinuate other people not to buy at retail price.

Don't know about JB, but some places don't like it since you're supposed to be reviewing the product, not the pricing, especially since worth/not worth at $XXX can be pretty subjective.

        • I understand where you are coming from, features, advantages, benefits etc.
However, reviewing a mid-range phone without its price point and value proposition doesn't seem like a complete review, IMO.

          • @ruthlesskid: JB probably don't want customers haggling for a better price based on your review. ;-)

Definitely that line, their guidelines explicitly state "No prices"

  • +9

When you submit a review to JB they have a link to their Guidelines just above the content box where you type the review.
The guidelines explicitly state No Prices, so that's the likely reason your review wasn't accepted.

    From their review form:

    Guidelines

Keep your review focused on the product
No service issues, send them to customer service feedback
    Don’t mention our competitors
    No prices
No personal info or full names
    No profanity

Thank Kail, I did not know that is not allowed when I posted it.
I will remove the pricing and test it again.
      Cheers

Why bother? The last place anyone should look for reviews is a retailers website.

      • No worries, good luck with getting your review accepted!

Did you even buy it? It reads like someone who didn't even bother researching before buying

    • Yes I bought it, had to replace my broken phone in a pinch. Did not see the value of 1K+ flagships, unless they are on OZB discounts🙂.

Most of the Cons are not features the Mobile claimed to have (and didn't).
Rather, other older Mobiles once had these features but your Mobile never did.

Stating "No headphone jack, No wireless charging" leaves the reader wondering if those features were stated but not included on your handset.
Instead, try for review a of what is, rather than what isn't. Similarly, this wouldn't be the place to write a
comparative review vs an iPhone or a offer a spot valuation. You overpaid? Meh…
You should checkout accessories or cases prior to buying.

    • Yes, I agree that the absence wireless charging on the A series is a tradition.
However, removing headphone jack on the new generation of A series is a step backwards.
A standalone review IMO does not give enough context for people who had prior expectation with their phones.
      e.g. Oppo, Moto, Sony&LG(RIP) .
I managed to retain my Ozb license via price matching the $499 Telstra pricing😀, after trying 3 different JB stores and paid with Gift card.
I guess my initial seeking of confirmational bias lead to even more time wasting. 😅

Found another 7M.O review on JB of the same product, questionable on its authenticity, but it talks about the price.
"I bought this phone at about a 25% discount near the end of its production. It has a nice bright screen, good performance, and great battery life. The camera is good, but not outstanding. This phone was unbeatable for the price."

  • Great, now the corporations have got your real name and address matched to your ozbargain account.

  • Found another 7M.O review on JB of the same product

That didn't mention the price, only the discounted amount, relative to unknown amount.

  • probably the 108mp camera being worse than a 12

    • Maybe it was a Selfie… and the subject was the problem,,, lol

    Best in class

100% this is why you were rejected. Any time I hear this I tune out and disregard the opinion of whoever said it.

    @ruthlesskid
Can you please report it here https://www.accc.gov.au/contact-us/contact-the-accc/report-a…

The review looks reasonable to me and assuming it is truthful, JB HiFi, in my opinion, maybe engaging in anti-competitive or misleading conduct.

    https://www.accc.gov.au/business/advertising-and-promotions/…

    See this as an example:
    https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/healthengine-to-pay-29…

HealthEngine also admitted that between 31 March 2015 and 1 March 2018, it did not publish around 17,000 reviews and edited around 3,000 reviews to remove negative aspects, or to embellish them. HealthEngine also admitted that it misrepresented to consumers the reasons why it did not publish a rating for some health or medical practices.

  • they screen them and if its got glaring bad points or negativity then yeah they decline to publish it.

ive done a few reviews of some devices and i have been declined publication of a review and reading the guidelines again it seems to be more of an independent interpretation as opposed to either you do or dont follow the rules.
