Is Window Trim under Warranty or Not?

I went for 3rd year service for 2020 Kia Cerato. My window trims is breaking in pieces. But dealer can’t replace under warranty. As Kia bulletin says trim are not covered under warranty. Should I peruse more? Or just fixed it myself.

Today I went to car parts shop. They told me to go to dealer for it, as shop like Supercheap don’t stock these.

Where can I source the trim from except dealers. I looked online there's not much in Amazon or eBay? It’s not like wiper or tyres to find easy replacement.

Unfortunately this type of item isn’t common and you are unlikely to find anywhere but the dealer to get the part. You might have some luck finding it overseas from a dealer cheaper.

As for warranty, yes they don’t cover ‘trim’ but if it’s only a couple of years old you could press them further under the Australian consumer guarantee that it should be expected to last longer and therefore their ‘warranty’ wording isn’t applicable.

Window trims aren't consumable IMO. I've had dozens of cars (including several 25+ years old) and never had one fail like that, even on vehicles that spent their entire lives outside. I also note that they state "new Kia bulletin". Are they retrospectively changing warranty conditions? Not sure that's legal. As Euphemistic stated, easy to make an argument that they should last longer than 3 years under ACL.

Check out the DURABILITY clause of the Accc.

Tell them to stick their “new Kia bulletin” up their arse, it’s a warranty item. It’s a window seal, not brake pads.

That defect is from manufacturer not from you winding your window up and down.

It’s on both back and front windows on left side. Front is worst

    • Is it always parked outside, under trees and washed with those hideous brushes at car washes?

    • 100% manufacturers defect. This is not consistent with general wear from winding windows up and down. And it's not from the sun, either.

We have a work ute that has NEVER seen shade, in it's life, and it's about 10+ years old and the window weather strips dont look this bad.

  • Raise it with Kia Head Office. Send the above video, and ask them to guess what year the car is. Then tell them your car details. I've had 15 year old cars that don't have that level of wear.
