What controllers are you using/recommending?
Was thinking I should get one with a 2.4ghz receiver as in the past Bluetooth dongles have been a bit unreliable or I have devices disconnect often. What's out there that's good value for money?

Pretty well spot on - you can't use the headphone jack when connecting via Bluetooth, only via the Xbox controller USB adapter. These can be had for $20isn, or sometimes bundled with a controller if you keep an eye out.
While the newer models have minor tweaks, all versions can connect via a USB cable which works exactly the same, and is cheaper - but less convenient.
Depends what you want to play and your personal preference in controllers.
The DualSense works well on PC and with software like DSX the features work wirelessly.

Some games like Metro even support haptics and triggers natively.
But if you want more retro gaming style then maybe something from 8BitDo.
8BitDo controllers are pretty good if for whatever reason you don't want to use an Xbox controller, which is somewhat the de facto standard for PC controllers I'd say. The 8BitDo Ultimate controllers or Pro ones work well and don't cost a fortune.

The newest xbox controller is prolly best. It has bluetooth built in or you could use the xbox wireless standard with the dongle, iirc it required to use the headphone jack on the controller? Don't quote me though, I don't really game on my gaming PC anymore.
