When did the interstate sales policy change?

I tried to buy a TCR SL0 in 2019 from the Lygon Cycles Giant dealer and flat out refused to ship interstate at my own cost. Was told that it's part of the dealer agreement.
Same thing at the city franchise too.

  • Hello Theo; no love for WA?

Hi there - as we are based in Victoria and we have our own staff deliver bikes fully assembled, it's not yet feasible for us to offer delivery to WA. However, if you would like to reach out to us at [email protected] with some specifics of where you're located and what you're after, we are more than happy to put you in touch with a Giant dealer in WA who may be able to help. Thanks!

  • Is the TCR suitable for a bit of gravel riding? I’m mostly road, but living regional I occasionally shoot down the odd dirt/gravel road, nothing too wild but want a bike capable of handling both.

The key issue is what kind of tyres you can run, and if the gravel is on the rougher side, how confident you feel riding on unstable surfaces.

Road bikes have traditionally only supported very narrow tyres, but with the trend in wider tyres there's more clearance these days. The specs on the website say the wheels can run a 32mm tyre.

To give you some idea, I feel okay riding 28mm slicks on my road bike on smooth gravel. I also have a cyclocross bike running 32mm treaded which is fine on smooth gravel and okay on rough gravel, but slower going. It's doable. But it's not like a mountain bike where you can just roller over anything.

I imagine the attraction of the gravel type bike is the ability to fit 40mm tyres which give you much better handling over rough gravel - as well as some adjustments to geometry to give you better handling (wider handlebars, more upright position, higher clearance?). Someone more expert on gravel may chime in.

    • I wouldn't recommend a TCR for anything beyond paved road riding. Not only is the tyre clearance quite narrow, but the geometry isn't very comfortable and emphasizes aero over comfort. If you're an occasional rider, the Marin Nicasio is a really nice bike and I'd recommend it from bikes online

    • To give you some indication of the types of tyres out there for the types of terrain and how obsessive you can get about these things:

Bottom line is. you can ride almost any bike on any terrain. Early mountain bikes were pretty basic after all. What changes with a bike tuned to the terrain is the speed with which you can traverse it, and the skill required to handle the bike.

  • Wow, a Giant TCR with just105 is now 3k. Yikes!

I bought my Giant TCR with Ultergra di2 for $2900 about 8 years ago! Still going strong.

Got any TCR rim brake frames available?

  • I can’t see a size guide on the Trance page. The FAQs say that there is a size guide on each bike page but can’t see it, can anyone else?

    • Hi there, thanks for pointing this out - I have raised a ticket to get this added ASAP. In the meantime, please refer to the sizing chart for the bike on the Giant Bicycles Australia website here - https://www.giant-bicycles.com/au/trance-x-29-2

Please let us know if there's anything else we can help with!
