Echo Speaker and Alexa

I bought an Echo smart speaker, installed Alexa on my phone logged in. It said something about my account being in the USA, couldn’t get past it so accepted it.

Everything seemed OK, I could set up news and flash topics or whatever big choice but couldn’t get Commsec news. It said it was for Australia.

Contacted support they quickly changed my Alexa account base to Australia.

Now Alexa sucks, it seems the Australian Alexa site is a pale imitation of the USA one.

Should I have stayed on the USA based Alexa? It seems to have many more options and services available.

  • All fixed, did a bit of Googling and the answer to my problem was to delete the app, then reinstall.

Now Alexa can find skills and whatever.

  • Good luck with your purchase.
The Alexa phone app has to be one of the stupidest apps ever designed.
    It's unintuitive and bloated.
The volume slider for alarms doesn't show a scale unlike the volume slider for normal listening. Just one example of the stupidity. 😐

I agree, it can do a lot of tasks if you can find where.

Then it can’t do many easy intuitive things.

Anyway I bought the Echo 3rd edition from OfficeWorks for $27, $2 cheaper than Amazon just to try it out. They sold it for $19 last year but that was then.

It’s a pretty good speaker for the money, quite hefty, loud with a decent range. I am going to use it to replace a radio for news bulletins.
