Need Help Choosing a Mobile Phone or Phone Plan Purchase

The only reason I'm looking is my s20+ 128 gig charging port is becoming more faulty (as in certain cables just don't connect, others easily loose connection etc.). Both back and front screens are cracked too from my little one getting hold of it for exactly 30 seconds but neither affects performance. repair quote is the cost of a new google pixel 7.

I want something with a decent camera and decent screen. Best phone plan I found was with optus:
29.10 per month x 24 months for the Google Pixel 7
49 per month for 30gig plan x 24 months

Is this decent value or should I be looking elsewhere.

Located in South Tasmania so Vodafone is not an option down here.

You'll be better off buying outright and finding a cheap month to month deal.

  • loose connection of cable is mostly due to dust and lint that gets deposited from keeping phone in pocket / purse / bag etc

if you can clear it and get the screens fixed from shops rather than samsung direct, the phone might still be good enough

  • The s20+ has wireless charging, you could switch to using that?

  • Much depends on your data usage (do you need 30GB pm?) and who pays for the phone (employer, or can you write it off?)
One thing I have found with my current provider (Amaysim) is that they have increased the data allowance on my deal, from 180GB pa to 240GB pa. Both more than I use but nice to have that backup.
If saving $$$ is the priority, and it was me paying the tab, I would buy the handset outright (after waiting for a sale price), go for a 6-month deal with an MVNO for now, and then started looking for a Black Friday offer and lock in a 12 month deal, preferably with a cash back offer.

  • How much data do you need?

Your cost is $1,874.40 over 2 years.

Phone is $799 at Telstra outright right now then a couple of years on Boost, Amaysim, Woolworths, etc would be $500-600. So a fair whack of savings. Plus you get 72k telstra points.

  • Thanks for the replies.

I tried wireless charging but it doesn't seem to work. Also a pain in the car as I use android auto.

data use is about 15 gig a month. employer pays $15 dollars per fortnight towards phone costs.

@branners - your plan seems a good one. Hopefully the port can hang on till the specials come around. The telstra deal requires having a service with Telstra. Haven't yet checked T&C's if I can cancel immediately post purchase.

    Will therefore hold
