Purchase Limit on Afterpay Day

Hello fellow Ozbargainers,

Please help. Afterday Day is starting in 7hr or so, and I have just registered my first ever Afterpay account in hope of securing a good graphics card deal.

The platform auto assigned me with a $600 limit on my account.

My question is as following - does the limit mean that I can only buy whatever product that's of a value of $600 or less? Let's say if the graphics card that I'm eagerly waiting to acquire is about $2000 after the Afterpay discount (Was $2500 for instance), does it mean that I can't even enjoy this promotion?

Thank you all dearly for the help.

This is part of Afterpay Day sale for 2023

  • Yes you have a $600 purchase limit. It increases over time as you use it and make payments up to $2,000 max.

Not that i use it all but i have a 3k limit

      • Same . But of course at all limits there is nothing to stop you topping it up again if required .:)

    • up to $3k limit

    • I have $2500, probably after buying a phone

  • That's very sad to know. So I can't buy anything over $600 then?

In that case, I'm considering closing down my account then. Would closing down account in any way adversely affect my credit score more than leaving it open for a period of time first?

Sorry for asking so many questions

    • You should have gotten an AFterpay account much sooner. It won't affect your credit score, keep the account for the next afteryay. Use it to so Afterpay offer you a bigger credit limit. Everyone in Australia, including you now, has an Afterpay account. They aren't reporting every account to credit agencies, you don't need to worry if you make the repayments.

        Incorrect.

      • Except when you go for a loan and its counted.

Plus the bank sees that you can't afford things upfront, and have to pay them off over X amount of time. Not a good look.

Didn't it used to be that you only had to pay some of the balance by afterpay to get the discount? So use a gift card for majority of the cost, then afterpay the rest

    • This has been the case on previous afterpay ebay sales.

  • The platform auto assigned me with a $600 limit on my account.

You are a 'new' account, you have a risk to them of not paying. So they start small.
