Fitbit Health Metrics Dashboard Now Free to All Fitbit Users (No Subscription Required)

300

I have just came across this great news!! All Fitbit and Pixel watch owners will be happy with these news.

Fitbit has announced that they’ll be making a set of their Fitbit Premium subscription features free to all Fitbit users – including for Pixel Watch users which leverage the Fitbit features. These features are mostly historical data access features (versus things like coaching). The change is effective today/immediately, but may take till the end of the month to roll out for all users.

Fitbit says specifically that data within the “Fitbit Health Metrics Dashboard” will now be free to all users, which includes trends for both 30-day and 90-day timeframes. This includes the following stats (according to Fitbit):

Breathing rate: This metric is the number of breaths you take per minute.
Heart-rate variability (HRV): This metric is the variation in time between heartbeats.
Skin temperature: This metric is the variation in your skin temperature taken from your wrist while you sleep.
Oxygen saturation (SpO2): This metric estimates the amount of oxygen in your blood, and will only be available on compatible devices.
Resting heart rate (RHR): This metric is the number of times your heart beats per minute when you are still and well-rested.

Note that some features remain Premium, such as Fitbit’s Daily Readiness Score, which combines a number of data layers together such as sleep and workout history, to figure out whether you should do a workout or take a nap (or some combination of the two of those). Same goes for features like sleep restlessness.

So while Fitbit hasn’t gone all the way to removing the Fitbit Premium subscription, this is a notable first step.

    About time….

Using your smartwatch to check the time is still a premium feature.

The idea of having to buy a product and then pay more money to fully utilize that product really annoys the shit out of me, even if they are hell bent on a subscription service, they should be giving free years based on how much you spent at a bare minimum… I refuse to buy any of their products as a result.

Was in the Fitbit (google) platform for 5 years. Moved to garmin for accuracy and features.

    • The Quantified Scientist on YT does show that Garmin is just fair on accuracy.

Barely into the fitness tech scene (just have apple watch and a cheap Merida bike with no gear) but I love DCRainmaker. Fantastic videos and reviews.

  • was feeling disappointed with the quality of fitbit4 (after using 5+ fitbit products) and moved to huawei watch now

Imagine paying for hardware and then having software locked behind paywall. Wouldn’t recommend buying a Fitbit.

I'm still bitter about Google ripping me off by not giving me 6months free Fitbit Premium when I bought Google Pixel Watch, purely because I was already a Fitbit Premium member at the time of onboarding my Pixel Watch. Totally nonsense marketing. Especially considering how expensive Fitbit Premium costs, and even more so given the lacklustre feature set of premium.

    • They say 6 months Free Premium for new and returning customers - probably all you had to do was to cancel your subscrition and reactivate it once you got your watch up and running

      • Yes, but one needs to be aware of that BEFORE they activate their watch! And, if they've got a subscription for a series of months, that means they have to wait until their sub expires before they activate their watch… and I wasn't going to wait 3 months!

It's sneaky and a bit shitty of them if you ask me. Why make (loyal) Fitbit Premium members jump through hoops unsubscribing and resubscribing.

I guess it's a hard lesson learned, that "6 months Free Premium for NEW and RETURNING customers" also means. "… If you're ALREADY a PREMIUM CUSTOMER, well you're screwed"

        • I agree it's pretty shi-ty from them and I would also be pis-ed off

  • moved away from Fitbit, never looked back.
    Hated the paywall sooo much

  • My Fitbit reckons I don't sleep with it on so can't tell me anything about my sleep

Like wtf? I have this thing on 24/7 as it only requires charging once every couple of weeks.

I don't get any notifications from my phone to it.

I only got it coz it was cheap at the time and now I know why … :(

  • I was wondering if anyone knows a good way to get Fitbit premium for cheap from another country (India, Turkey etc)

    • @liongalahad Thanks for tagging me. Turkey can get it 3 months free, then ₺530/year (A$41.8) or ₺66/mth (A$5.2). For reference, AU prices are $15/mth and $130/year

      • sorry I've untagged you cos I thought the tagging didnt work lol clearly it did work
Cool! do I just turn the VPN on and pay for it? Has anyone tried?

        • This is Turkey via Apple iOS. I can't seem to find the Turkey website - it doesn't exist

Let me know if you need instructions. Requires an Apple iOS device
