Is the strap hinge metallic on these?
One of the [plastic] strap hinges on my forerunner 645 broke off. Looking to avoid a repeat.

    • +1

Mine broke, and they replaced it for free with a refurbished version.

      • Thanks. May I ask how you went about that? I see there's a replacement program but doesn't include Australia.

Get a nylon one - life changing! I got a couple of them off Aliexpress for a few bucks and haven't looked back.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately it's not the strap, but the hinge where the strap goes :/
        As in the link.

For support on your damaged one, call Garmin on 1800 235 822. Sydney based support, if they give you trouble throw around a couple of ACL keywords like "Expected lifespan" and "Fit for purpose". They're usually pretty chill.

As for the Fenix, they have a metal chassis, unlike the plastic Forerunner series, so to answer your question; Yes. :)

          • @Sleeqb7: Thank you kindly!
I'll stock up on ACL keywords.

Best thing about the garmin fenix is you can wear it everywhere and never feel like its going to get damaged or stop working. beach, pool, shower, bash and crash where ever.

Tiny watch for females / those with thin wrists

    • I'm upvoting because you point has merit even if the tone doesn't.
I have a 46mm Coros and have very small wrists but a 42mm would look small.

  • Does anyone know if the 7 is a big jump up from the 6x? Mainly keen on the running, skiing and maps function.

Better HR accuracy, better GPS accuracy. Training readiness is great. Probably some other software things I can't quite recall right now.

As to whether it's worth the extra cost, that's very subjective.

This will probably suit about 70- 80% of people considering both.

Maybe if you are after touchscreen. Map/Navigation becomes bit painful without touchscreen, but I am happy with my 6X.

      • +2

Yes thanks, I knew I forgot something! Touch is highly useful for maps, semi useful for things like setting alarms, swiping through menus.

      Hi Witty,

I personally own a 6x pro and can't justify spending almost double on the upgrade. The As @wearytraveller mentioned it's very subjective. The 6x pro is still an excellent watch and worth considering for it's price point.

This is a comparison between 6x pro and 7x solar: https://versus.com/en/garmin-fenix-6x-pro-vs-garmin-fenix-7x…

      • Cheers, I deffo can't justify the 7x, but when the 7 has been on sale it's only a few hundred more than the 6x so it's got me wondering!

  • I will still wait for 7, because of the multi language support.
    :-(
