Booking Bangkok Holiday for 11 People

Looking for some advice on the best way to go about booking flights and accommodation for 11 people. Going to Bangkok near end of June. Have booked many holidays for myself but for 11 people it's a bit of a headache.

Is there an agent that can help book without charging exorbitantly for their service. (Flight Centre want $300 per person more than Thai airways charge for the same flight. That's $3300 extra just for flights not even accommodation).

Also, what type of insurance would be best. It's going to cost @$25000. Feels very risky!

Try a personal travel agent. Travel Managers is who I use (should be one in your local area)

11 People are not that hard, managing funds will be a headache.
Make sure to get decent travel insurance for all. When group booking, its too hard to get refund on one no show.
Perhaps book as an individual family and Cancelable hotel booking if possible.
As above, travel agent would be better option even at a cost.

Which airline do you prefer? I've found in the past with JQ (as an example) 10 or more travellers can engage the group booking service. We still ended up booking online as the group booking rate was slightly higher but you do get some perks and extra amenities

    • JQ had a group booking feature where the fare would be held for 24-48 hours and each person could make their own payment towards the booking. There was small overhead for this feature … no idea if it's still there, but I don't see why they would remove it.

  • Just be careful not to split the booking. The airline needs to be aware that it is a group booking or they could auto-cancel. needs to be arranged via the airline whether or not a travel agent does it.

Each person (or sub group) should get their own insurance. You don't want to be asking everyone about their medical history, insurance requirements, etc. Someone will want free insurance through their credit card, others will want a top level stand along policy.

    • CBA has complimentary travel insurance with their credit cards (most of them? not sure if it's all of them) - and insanely it seems that all you need to do is to activate the cover without any spend requirement. It covers you and your husband/wife and up to 10 dependents. Check with them for more details.

What a nightmare. I'd rather not go.

You really need a travel agent.

  • Thanks for the help. I think the only way forward is through a travel agent.
