Tuya Wi-Fi Smoke Alarm US$8.69 (~$13.28) Shipped @ AliExpress Factory Direct Collected Store

51

A wifi smoke detector for $13.28 is pretty good. I would suggest not using these as your only smoke detectors.

I haven't done much research yet but it doesn't look like these will be easy to integrate into home assistant.

Its an affiliate product so you'll get back 4.5%.

Requires 2 x AAA 1.5V battery.

Bought one for my partner so she knows when the lasagna is done.

What, I thought you just throw lasagna into the dishwasher.

Of course AliExpress is a reasonable place to buy smoke alarms..

It's my go to for geiger counters, pacemakers, and scuba tanks.

Check your local legislation around detectors needing to be hardwired..

A cheap smoker detector off ali, what can possi-bligh go wrong - wow that's the first thing that ever went wrong.

If you want one for a garden shed or something it might be okay but in general I'd avoid Tuya devices with home assistant, you need to extract the local key and that can change periodically. Many of the newer devices don't run an ESP anymore so you can't flash them with Tasmota.

    • Yep - don't use them as your primary smoke detector but they are good for sending your mobile a notification, turning on the lights garden reticulation etc.

Good chance the smoke detector will be the cause of the fire.

  • You should flip these on Amazon OP.

No reference to it meeting Australian Standard AS 3786 for Smoke Alarms.

Came here to say this. Don't buy these smoke alarms.

      • Buy it as a bit of extra insurance so you can get a notification if your $10 AA battery chargers catch fire while you are out.

  • I checked with the Battery King.

He informed me that yes, an "ultra low power" WiFi mode should totally be ok on just 2x AAA.

He reminded me that AAA, are some of the most largest and most energy filled batteries available and couldn't think of any reason why it was a bad idea.

    • I think it's overall reliability people worry about.
Would you buy mountain climbing gear from AliExpress? Same thing, except the mountain climbing gear doesn't depend on wifi….

    • He reminded me that AAA, are some of the most largest and most energy filled batteries available

      Say what?

  • Any recommendations on a reasonable smoke alarm?

Does it support automation? I would love it if upon smoke detection it starts playing "The Roof is on Fire"

  • In NSW Fire Rescue NSW will come to your home and install one(10yr long life photoelectric smoke alarm) if you don't have one or if it's in the wrong spot.

  • Got mine today. It works with home assistant using the Tuya integration so you can automate from it.
