[XB360] Red Dead Redemption $16.48 @ Microsoft

150

I am quite a few years late to this but last night picked up an Xbox Series X (thanks marketplace) with the sole intention of playing RDR before playing RDR2, and then today saw that Red Dead Redemption was on sale on the Microsoft store. Can now play it in upscaled 4K goodness, or 1440p on the Series S.

Technically perhaps not a deal for those with a Series X as you can just buy a used 360 version, but for those with Series S this is about as cheap as it gets to own the game.

A chunk of other games on sale as well: https://www.xbox.com/en-au/games/all-games?cat=onsale

But don't forget to check game pass first etc

  • Played through this via BC on my Series X last year. Game still holds up so well.

    • Yeah, I played it a few of years ago on the One X, before the Series X was out, in 4K. It looked great.

I grabbed a used disc version from EB at the time

      • Nice. I used my original launch disc. I love Xbox BC, so glad they were able to get this approved by T2.

There's an xbox360 emulator for pc called xenia-canary on GitHub that runs RDR and other games really well, 60fps at high resolutions (1080p, 1440p). Emulation is legal if you own the game, and obtain the ROM, do with this information what you will.

That may be the case in the US where Fair Use exceptions apply, but I don't think it's for certain the case in Australia where we do not have fair use exceptions.

    • I tried it a few days ago and it was unplayable with a 10850k and a 3080, it is possible I did something wrong but I wouldn't say the game was anywhere near playable for me.

5900x 3080 1440p 60fps for me. Are you sure you're using the canary build of Xenia?

Yeah definitely sure. I did just retest then, I double checked all my settings and turned on the performance patches and that definitely helped out, I think that's where I was going wrong

  • RDR 2 is better
