Ottocast U2-X Pro
First time the price has dropped from $169 according to the Camels https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B0BFGJ4CR2. Limited time deal. Other Ottocast products are also discounted, search for Amazon AU for Ottocast. This price is better than other alternatives like sourcing from the overseas site and applying discount codes.

What does it do?
If you have a car with Wired Apple CarPlay this device will connect via the USB wire and allow you to wirelessly connect your phone to the car's screen and audio, you can use either an Apple IOS 10+ phone with CarPlay or an Android 11+ phone with Android Auto wirelessly. It does not work with a car's built in Android Auto, the car must have wired Apple CarPlay. So if you have a car with CarPlay only and an Android phone, this could be a great product for you. Youtube reviews are quite favourable for this product, but please do your own research to be sure it's right for you.

  • might as well spend an extra $100-150 and get a new android auto with wireless carplay/android auto too.

Depends how integrated your system is with the vehicle, not an option for many. I'm looking for an easy solution with minimal fuss.

      • Canbus is the thing one will need to buy for those integrations. (But yeah it adds a bit to the cost too).

Mine was only having steering wheel controls, so was pretty easily (technically could have avoided paying extra for canbus too, But i wanted to keep those steering wheel controls).

I'd be wary of using products that uses Apple Car play in the headunit for Android Auto. I had the CarlinkIt and it was slow as hell, used the wrong resolution, no two finger zoom etc. It might just have been the product being slow, but I suspect something that uses android auto for android auto would have been better.

    • CarLinkIt 4.0 didn't work well for me either, it would have been okay except for flashing a black screen every 10-15 seconds. Then it bricked itself.

I read that the Android Auto API was a difficult and variable where the CarPlay API was stable and well understood so should result in better reliability. I really hope the Ottocast does the job.

      • Poor API is a poor excuse when most headunit vendors are able to implement it.

I haven't had a positive experience with wireless CarPlay adapters yet.. perhaps it's the ultrawide screen in my car or the resolution but it can be very laggy - especially if navigating and listening to Spotify at the same time. I've also found that sometimes the GPS doesn't update (as CarPlay uses the car GPS - not the phones)… it's a weird issue as via cable I have no problems.

    • I had issues with Ultra wide tok

  • Did android auto just get a massive update? Does this work with the new version?

I won't recommend this, had to return it a couple of weeks ago. Very minimal lag with Carplay but AA is horrendous.

Like any dual based device, it converts aa protocols into carplay and that makes it laggy.

Maps were atleast a couple of seconds behind.

i have ottocast AA for palisade, using for month already ,its working flawless so far..
