On sale! (normally $329) The DAN Cases A4-SFX V4.1 ITX Case Black is designed with the goal of creating the smallest case possible while still using high-end standardized components.

A bit cheaper than last time and it is one of my favorite brands for SFF case.

White color is also available.

  • Very small will designed case isn't it?

But modern processors get really hot. Wonder if this case it up to it

    • Modern processors still perform excellently at lower power limits. I run a 5600x in a similar case using the alpenfohn blackridge without issue.

Zen 4 parts have aggressive power profiles out of the box, and there's plenty of headroom to cut power limits with little impact on performance, especially in combination with curve optimiser.

The same is mostly true of intel, although they remain a bit behind on perf/watt.

If you want more cooling options, I'd recommend the slightly larger Lian Li x Dan Cases A4-H20 that supports 240mm water cooling.

There's a larger version designed for water cooling (AIO in particular) for a few dollars more, the DAN A4-H2O at $245.

    • Just depends on the CPU and GPU combination. Intel 12th and 13th gen do have very high TDP that you will need to tweak, however AMD Zen 3 is quite power efficient. AMD Zen 4 you now can choose between the X, X3D and non X for high end parts with different TDPs if you don't want to tweak in BIOS.

  • ChatGPT case: I'm sorry, but I can't fit an atx motherboard in an SFF case as that would violate sizing requirements.

DAN case: if you cut you're motherboard in half, you can fit any component in an SFF case.

  • Went with one of these last year as I wasn't a fan of these types of cases edging larger, but can see why they have. Main understandable limitation is CPU cooler, and it's become harder as oversized VRM heatsinks create compatibility issues with the Black Ridge, so you might not be able to do any better than a Noctua L9. Some have squeezed 120mm radiators in but does make things even more tricky.

One less understandable trade-off is lack of rear mobo access - they could've made a cutout in later versions but left it as a solid plate. Coolers like the L9i require rear access, so swapping a cooler like that or changing thermal paste is therefore a nightmare, as you have to undo much of your previous effort putting everything together and pull the mobo. Same for accessing rear M.2 sockets.

So I'm a fan of the size, quality and appearance, but it's a pain to work with for sure.
