What Happened to Flypaper?

Remember these?
I used to be able to get them just about everywhere… bunnings, big w, colesworth and a few more places. But lately I haven't seen them in stock at any physical shop… yes, i can get them off ebay, amazon… but it's a few days delivery.

Something happen? Are we concerned now about "humanely" killing a fly?

Unfortunately glue traps are banned in VIC, ACT, TAS.

Most large format retail stores have already stopped selling them. Even fly paper traps which could be argued aren't against invertebrates. But they don't want to take the chance.

The easiest way to still get glue traps and fly tape is just order them from Amazon overseas. Customs doesn't care.

Oh damn, that would explain it - thought I was going crazy as I was literally just looking at these at my local bunnings (QLD) the other night.

  • It flew away.

    • Nah they were all trapped by flypaper-paper

  • I can imagine many people find them unsightly.
Marketing has been pushing spraying chemicals for years, and the old folk who were suspect about having poisons everywhere when I was a kid are long dead.

    • I tried one of those newer traps a few weeks ago. They stink. Don't work well, and they reek.

      • Stink and reek - never a good combination.

  • Even when they were available at Bunnings etc, for what they are they were incredibly overpriced. Order something on AliExpress or Amazon e.g. https://www.amazon.com.au/ValueHall-Dual-Sided-Capturing-Ins… - I use these, cut them in half (or quarters), and hang them around my plants to get rid of bugs. I've seen similar things be used in the garden section at some Bunnings stores too.

The pull-out roll-type ones you can usually find at stores like Cheap as Chips, or other "discount variety stores" (well at least that was where I purchased them the last time I used them)

    • … Aussie Disposal type stores, camping… :-/

The smelly traps with yellow lids do work.. Simply don't place them where you are, put the trap downwind elsewhere and the flies will follow. That way the flies and the smell are "over there", nowhere near you.

Yes, they’re inhumane and were pulled off the shelves.
