If you guys have any questions, comments or anything else

I'm looking for a sink, and have questions:

    • Why do almost all modern sinks have such huge drain holes? Unlikely you'd fit a waste disposal grinder under both tubs in a dual-tub sink.

    • What's the go with many of your sinks having the drain hole in the middle of each tub? That seems the worst spot to have it, easily blocked by having a plate in the sink. Restaurant sinks have the drain in the corner, the most practical place, you can easily remove the plug when the sink is fully loaded with dishes.

    • Surely it doesn't matter how the sink handles dishes, because you have a dishwasher for that task ?

      • So the sink is purely a source of water in your household?

Then why have sinks with two bowls/tubs? And why are they so popular?

        • No idea why sinks are like they are - but the only things we handwash in our family is the occasional thing that we can't put in the dishwasher 🤷🏼‍♂️ It's far from a regular occurrence.

My sink drain is at one edge…

          • @Nom: If you have only one or two people in the household, you don't have nearly as much washing. It would take me several days to fill the dishwasher, and the dirty dishes would be smelly and attract cockroaches in that time. So unless there's something that generates a lot of dirty dishes, like a party, the dishwasher rarely gets used.

The reason two sink bowls are preferred is dirty dishes collect in one bowl, perhaps soaking under water for an hour or more. As you wash them, they get stacked in the second bowl. When all the dishes have been washed, they get rinsed as they go from the second bowl to the draining rack.

And don't you just keep the door closed for those days (to keep the smell in and the coackroaches out), and then just turn on the dishwasher once it's full ? I used to do this approx twice a week - I can't imagine handwashing dishes unless you run out of cutlery in the days between washes (but I bought a second set to stop this happening) 🤷‍♂️

In no way is any of this thread any kind of criticism - I find it fascinating how everyone is different 😁😁

Dishwashers don't have an air-tight seal. Otherwise, when the water turns on, they'd be pressurised - from the incoming water volume, and from the heating of the air within the dishwasher. Typically there is only a splash-proof barrier at the bottom of the door.

                • @Russ: Please start using your dishwasher 🤗 They really don't smell, even if you only use them twice a week! Just imagine the time and water that you'll save!

                  • @Nom:

                    water that you'll save!

Don't get sucked in by that marketing furphy. Water is a renewable resource, coal-powered electricity isn't.

It's greener to handwash. And the amount of water used is negligible beside toilet flushing and showering.
