Just received an email about this offer that's back until the 30th May 2023. Would've applied for this myself if I hadn't applied for the Qantas Amex recently.

Stack it with this deal for a total of 190k bonus velocity points.

Note: Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any other Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited in the preceding 18-month period are ineligible for this offer.

Yeah, it's time to cancel my AMEX card to start the 18month waiting

    • SAME!
Just waiting for my upcoming international trip and then it's chop chop.

  • 18 months! I must have missed the change from 12 months. Ouch.

    • Yeah it's been 18 for a while now.

        At least since 5years+

        • I got an AMEX Ultimate twice with bonus points after a 12 months in both 2021 and 2022 so I don't think that is accurate…

I need to start a business.

Does the business need an income?

    • Need to be registered for GST so generally 75k income requirement

      • Being registered for GST and having an ABN are two different things. You can register a business i.e. get an ABN without having the need to register for GST if your annual sales is under $75k.

I know they're different…. I'm saying the requirement for this card is that you need to be registered for GST. And generally the requirement to register for GST is to have a business with 75k turnover.

@spiff: The requirement for a 75k turnover is to be registered for GST. You can be register for GST without any turnover.

  • Do David Jones cards count as being issued by Amex?

      First paragraph dude, c’mon.

  • This is a great deal. I'm only just approaching 12 months since I closed my last Amex Card.

  • If you have a personal Amex would you qualify for this if you open it under your business?

      No

    • If you keen for a biz card, Westpac has a great offer, that deal hasn't posted here I think.

Anyway to apply without having an ABN/business

    • Yeah mate, just enter the following exclusive Ozbargain code in everywhere it asks for your business details:

      OBNOBIZ

  • Is there a way to find out how long has it been since my las AMEX card?

    • Call the offshore Amex call centre and hope you can understand them

    • If you have an account with the credit score or credit report providers (like creditsimple. creditsavvy etc etc) you can see the open and close dates of your card/loan accounts.

    • Check your old emails

  • who applied previously, how long does amex generally take after applying for this?

    • +1

My partner applied. Instant approval. Didn't get asked for additional docs (not sure if that's standard for Amex). Got the card in roughly a week

  • Just got a retail Amex Velocity card. Very disappointed in the complimentary overseas travel insurance compared to ANZ or Westpac.

Amex dont have any Rental Car Excess cover unlike Westpac and ANZ. And for Amex health travel cover they don't allow you to upgrade the policy to cover existing conditions like others. Is there any upside to Amex travel insurance, ? I'm going back to activating cover with ANZ and Westpac . I haven't looked at Comm Bank Ultimate Cover yet.

  • I'm looking to get this card (I actually came upon it on Pointhacks). I've normally avoided Amex due to lack of acceptance but I have a new business and will be doing some travelling so it seems to look pretty good for me. I also am a Virgin traveller, not Qantas. This card offers a 12-mth Tier 2 upgrade for Virgin Business Flyer which means gold status and hence lounge access.

Can anyone comment on the acceptance of Amex? I haven't had one in about 12 years.

  • Applied this morning and was immediately accepted (kind of surprised me that it didn't ask for any additional details other than looking up my ABN). Card should be here within a week. I've actually found AMEX to be the easiest to deal with on applications.
