Sony Is Offering Free Upgrade from X900h (Faulty) to X90k, Should I Accept This Model?

Hi All,

I have had so many issues with my x900h which kept dropping off my soundbar and my android player.

After several service calls they decided to offer me a successor of x900h (x90k) which was nice of them.

I did a quick comparison on rtings and noticed that x90k wasn't rated higher. https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/sony-x900h-vs-sony-x…

What would you have done if you were in my position? Should i accept their offer?

I would love to hear your thoughts.

Edit (15/03/2023) :

I negotiated with Sony and they are happy to offer me X95K. 😊

C'mon you feel you'll notice the difference of 0.2 of an arbitrary rating out of 10?

    • You only looked at TV shows rating, here's full Comparison:

                    X900H > X90K

      Mixed Usage:  8.1 > 7.8
      Movies:  8.5 > 8
      TV Shows:  7.8 > 7.6
      Sports:  7.6 > 7.5
      Video Games:  8.6 > 8
      HDR Movies:  8.1 > 7.8
      HDR Gaming:  8.5 > 8

Near as makes no real world difference. There's always a degree of subjectivity per reviewer and changes from unit to unit even of the same model.

What's your alternative if don't accept their offer?

    • I am still negotiating. They haven't offered me anything else yet.

  • If you had the option to pick between the two working models, then it would make sense to pick the one with better ratings.

This however is not your situation - you have a TV that doesn't function the way you want vs one that would work the way you want.

Do you want a fully or partially functioning TV?

    • Yes you are correct. But i am trying to negotiate with them to offer me something similar to what my tv is. If not, i will accept x90k (looking at votes).

      • What do you mean similar to your TV? It's the exact same spec.

  • Suggested Maybe

Ratings are similar. Probably can't tell the difference. Newer TV is likely to last you longer into the future. I'd take their offer.

I take rtings with a grain of salt.
If you do not like the replacement you could always ask for refund and buy the tv you like!

1000% you should accept the x90k as the x90k fixes the interlaced 4k 120hz issue that the x900h has.

Seems like a reasonable option, I don't see why not.

Sony refunded my 65” X90H and I then purchased a 75” X90J. Big improvement for me. Brighter screen, brighter HDR highlights plus all the working 2.1 gaming features.

I’m unsure on how much of an improvement the K model is from the J though.

Put the ratings aside. They are different year, same series and range. You’ll get two years of upgrade. K is 2022, H is 2020. Come on. Can’t understand the hesitation.

  • I'll gladly trade you my X9000H for your X90K lol

  • Just take the superior model.
Rtings also adjusts their standards each year so i'd imagine expectations would go up each year.

  • I highly doubt you could visually see the differences in the ratings that you posted, to the point I'm confident you won't see the difference.

    Take the newer model.

  • Take the new model, you get a brand new TV instead of a repair. I believe the new TV will also have its own warranty reset from the day you receive it (or at least the ACL argument). Rtings is good for comparison, but the difference in score is small, and expectations do go up each year, so it probably got a lower rating as its competitors were improving faster than Sony.

I had something similar, my X800D carked itself, and I got a replacement X800G from Sony. Worse ratings from Rtings but it was definitely a better TV (although also I think my X800D was defective from the beginning), just probably not as good value as its competitors for its time and it didn't improve much from its predecessors.

  • Remember that a TV is also reviewed in relation to its current competition, so the ratings will always be dependent on what else is on the market, and whether the line for a 10/10 has moved (which I would argue it has with so many more OLED's on the market). Go the X90K, it is literally the current version of your TV.

  • Voted for maybe, in the spirit of maybe it's maybeline

  • I'd take the free upgrade instantly
