  • Thanks, was literally looking at getting one last week, I'm glad I held off!

  • Thanks got 1 👍

  • +6

I still can't believe these don't include rechargeable batteries.

    • +3

      Why would they?

      • +2

        Modernise it

        • +17

You mean like PlayStation, where their controllers become e-waste when the non-replaceable batteries die? Nah I’d rather AA.

          • -3

@PainToad: Doesn't hurt them to put in a removable rechargeable one

            • +4

@profounddominator: I’d rather disposable than drive up the price. People who want rechargeable can buy them.

              • +8

@PainToad: It would be a minute cost difference for Microsoft to absorb and it would provide a lot of value to consumers. Not sure why you're going so hard to defend a trillion dollar company

                  • +1

@PainToad: All they need to do is add a removable battery and a cable to plug your controller into your Xbox to charge it

                • +1

@profounddominator: You could use the same logic for other companies; sony could do the same for their PlayStation controllers. Or how easy it was to replace the battery on an android phones years ago compared to nowadays

                • @profounddominator:

It would be a minute cost difference for Microsoft to absorb and it would provide a lot of value to consumers. Not sure why you're going so hard to defend a trillion dollar company

What exactly is the value to consumers?

I use my controller daily and the original AA are still going strong after 6 months. This is as opposed to my Nintendo Switch and Playstation controllers that have to be recharged every week or two. Li-ion batteries are not great at holding a charge for long periods of time, which is what you would want in a controller.

AA batteries also just make the controller timeless. For as long as AA batteries are made, we can go back and re-use these controllers. Having enjoyed a lot of vintage gear, AA batteries are a lifesaver.

I have PS3 controllers that already don't hold a charge anymore. Sure I can replace the batteries today, but it'll just get more difficult over time.

How about you actually engage on the merits of the question as opposed to cheap shots like "defending a trillion dollar company"?

                  • @p1 ama: Please refer to comment above:

"All they need to do is add a removable battery and a cable to plug your controller into your Xbox to charge it"

                    For example: https://www.ebgames.com.au/product/xbox-one/165026-xbox-one-…

                    It isn't rocket science.

                  • @p1 ama: The 8Bitdo Pro 2 is the best of both worlds.
It includes a removeable rechargeable battery you can charge by plugging in the cable.
Once the battery wears out, you can either replace it with a similar battery or use standard AAs.
Replacing it is similar to the Xbox one controller. Just a cover over the battery slot.

          • +6

@PainToad: You can replace the li-ion battery in PS controllers with some dismantling, but yeah in general I'm fine with AAs so you can just use eneloops.

            • +1

@soymeat: Most people aren't that tech savvy though. Sure, iy may seem easy for you but it could be difficult and too time consuming for others

            • @soymeat: I bought one of these a few months back, wasn't aware that it wasn't rechargable. Ordered a recharger from Microsoft almost immediately since they were out of stock everywhere around here, they said it would take maybe 3 days. It ended up taking weeks, and I chewed through a ton of batteries waiting for it to get there. :(

It's partly the fault of the cheap Aldi batteries I had. The initial batteries which came with it lasted maybe 20 hours, but those ALDI batteries lasted about 3 hours.

              • +1

@CodeExplode: You didn't buy rechargeable AA batteries? I haven't bought one-time-use batteries in over a decade.

                • @Lucille Bluth: I haven't needed batteries for anything in probably over a decade so nah unfortunately not.

          • +1

@PainToad: 100% agree with this. All controllers should justify EAS (Eneloop Acquisition Syndrome).

    • +2

I bought a series X on launch and have been using this base since. My kid uses this thing a LOT. Comes with stand, batteries and new backing plates.

      Best $29 ever spent.

      https://www.amazon.com.au/Powerwave-Xbox-Dual-Charging-Stand…

      • This looks great! I’m guessing the backing plates only come in black though?

        • +1

Unfortunately, but we have blue and red controllers and the black plate actually looks cool in a weird way. Comes with plates for Xbox One and Series X/S. So two sets of each.

      • Yep got the same one

    • Apparently it’s some stupid deal they have with energiser…

    • +1

Just use energizer rechargeables. Mine have lasted for years. High capacity as well. Never have to worry about cables . Just swap them out.

    • +2

But then how would I use my 3,000 eneloops

    • +3

I get months of use with my eneloops and the added bonus is the controller is made for adult human hands.

Why would you want a fixed battery?

My 360 controller all still work but none of my PS3 ones do unless plugged into the console.

    • If you include rechargeable batteries, people will assume the controller can charge them. Which they can't.

And you can't make the controller be able to charge rechargeable batteries because people will put in non-rechargeable batteries in them.

And they sure aren't going to include a separate charger peripheral.

Unless you mean make a controller with builtin rechargeable battery.

  • +3

Really hoping the one with wireless adaptor goes down a bit. Think best price was around $70.

  • +3

I want to get a second one, but I don' t have friends so it will make me sad seeing it sit there by itself.

    • +4

I'll come over and play with you. That sounded a lot more appropriate in my head.

      • +1

I don't think I could have asked for a better reply!

  • +1

Can anyone help me. I want a new controller for my PC. But I'm confused between xbone and series X controller. They look the same. This one says Xbox one but the one on Amazon for 78$ is series X. Is there any difference worth noting?

    • +1

Personally, I find the Series X/S a much better controller than the XB One. It just feels better in hand.

Note: For visual purpose, the XB1 has two main buttons in the middle of controller and XB X/S has three.

    • +1

I can confirm that the one being sold by EB Games are the new Xbox Series Controllers (you can tell by the different Home Button, D-Pad and the middle button).

    • Get the Series controller. This ebay deal says xbox one on the listing but it is a series x controller. At this price it's truly an oz bargain

  • So don't bother with this one?

  • +1

I'd rather have a better newer design for 16$ more

  • So this is misslabelled?

    • +1

'Xbox Wireless Controller' is the official name of the Xbox Series Controller. 'Xbox One' is in the title just indicates that it's backward compatible with the Xbox One.

Also for future reference, you can reply to specific comment by clicking 'reply' under each comment.

      • Oh ok yep

  • So is the picture or the label wrong. Because eBay EBgames also has "Xbox controller series X pre owned" listed on their seller page.

    • I'd suggest label is wrong. Has the correct images, the colour Carbon Black is only Xb1 to my knowledge as well.

      • the colour Carbon Black is only Xb1 to my knowledge as well.

It's also called 'Carbon Black' for the Xbox (Series) Wireless Controller. (From Microsoft)

        • Apologies… I meant Xbox X/S. Whoops!

        • +2

Wow Microsoft really had a stroke when they started naming this new generation. Series X Xbox one X etc. Bonkers

        • So carbon black is not. An Xb1 colour?

  • Got a pulse red. Thanks OP.

  • Yeah cheers OP

I bought one as well. Local pickup at EB.

  • Pre-owned says series X. New is Xbox One controller.

    • +1

      As per my commented above:

I can confirm that the one being sold by EB Games are the new Xbox Series Controllers (you can tell by the different Home Button, D-Pad and the middle button).

  • Would be nice if the usb dongle was still being manufactured

    • It’s not?

  • +1

Definitely Xbox series wireless not Xb1.
I just click and collected mine at my local EB.
    Great price. Thanks OP

  • For those concerned it’s not the latest Xbox Series controller, the item description states:

Experience the modernized design of the Xbox Wireless Controller - Carbon Black, featuring sculpted surfaces and refined geometry for enhanced comfort during gameplay. Stay on target with a hybrid D-pad and textured grip on the triggers, bumpers, and back case. Seamlessly capture and share content such as screenshots, recordings, and more with the new Share button. Use the Xbox Accessories app to remap buttons and create custom controller profiles for your favourite games. Quickly pair with, play on, and switch between devices including Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Windows 10 PCs, IOS and Android.

Good enough for me (or an eBay dispute if needed).

Awesome deal, thrashed out second hand go for $50+. Purchased!

  • I ordered the 8bitdo Pro 2 last week… I need a controller for my PC, TV (bluetooth) and Android. Is this a better deal than the Pro 2?

    • +1

8bitdo is cheaper today at JB

    • +1

No! Your 8bitdo is far superior in everyway and compatible in more devices, I got 8bitdo as well, it's a no brainer really

      • +1

Thanks man. I'll stick with my Amazon order then at $59 (could have got it at JB via C&C for cheaper but nothing has stock nearby)

        • Nice, enjoy!

  • So what is the recommendation for a PC controller these days?
I am still using an old Xbox wired controller.

    • -1

      This one. None better

      • So much fail in your comment.
How is none better than useless xblock controller when there's 8bitdo Pro 2 and it cheaper?! And can XPOS controller work with the Android, Windows, Mac, Steam, Nintendo Switch, Raspberry Pi?
8bitdo Pro 2 is the undisputed best controller on the market!
There's a dozen more controllers better than that ugly controller…

        • He asked for a PC controller . Not all the other things.
I have many 8butdos and they work ok. When the sticks are not worn which happens to all of them.

This controller is best for windows by far.

    • 8bitdo Pro 2

      • No way. This controller is high quality

  • +1

Great price , will get one, thinking of using it for PC as well.

Only the Blue one seems to be in stock.

  • Black is out of stock. However it's on sale in-store for $70 which is still a good price and you don't need eBay plus.

  • Just got refunded for the black controller, out of stock

  • I just got refunded for the Carbon Black controller too, purchased this pretty early on in yesterday's deal. Is everyone getting cancelled?

    • How early did you order? I ordered the 3 colors at 11:28AM and received them yesterday.

  • +1

Just bought the Blue for $65.96 Thanks OP

  • This code cannot be applied to your order anyone?

  • Blue back in stock.
