Macca's Targeting Addicts by Charging More

Hi all, I confess I eat lots of Maccas but only when there is a good bargain. I am not an addict.

Recently I have noticed I have been charged more for same deals when compared to my friends.

Is this fair? Has anyone notice this?

It's called dynamic pricing. They charge what they think you will pay based on a complex algorithm.

I receive different pricing for the same offers across my multiple accounts.

      "Dynamic"

sounds like gouging to me. Have I teleported to America, where fuk the consumer runs king

As a maccas Addict with only one account perhaps I should consider making some burner accounts…

  • Makes sense if their algorithm knows you'll buy it anyway. I'm off McDonald's until I lose some weight. I need to halve my waffle intake too and probably need to start exercising. I wouldn't get out of bed if I knew I couldn't have at least one waffle.

    My deal is even worse

Good to see they are looking after their best staff member.

I just checked my phone and have this also haha. I think I also had the same deals as the OP last week and the week before but didn't claim them.

    • Do staff still get 50% off before and after their shifts and on breaks?

    • But yours is medium @Savas compared to the two in the OP that are small meals. More chips and more drink!

    • Looking at my app I don’t even HAVE this deal 🥲

Such a large discrepancy in prices makes me think this might be price/demographic research for what might become a permanent menu option?

I can't help but feel they're still profiting handily from this meal even at the $7 price point…

    • True. The more people who still buy it at this price the more they’ll realise that they can get away with higher prices. This is just the world we live in now.

  • Haha this made me laugh out loud..tubbies paying more for junk..what a great idea!

    • Wait until big gooner comes for your cave

      • I can only imagine the carnage that is your bmi.. now PAY UP MORE

          Dude I'm a monkey, I only eat bananas…

  • Are the two screenshotted deals with different prices linked to the same store? I've found that different franchises have different prices. So it could be dependant on what you've got set as you "closest store".

It's completely random. I have multiple accounts. Each one will get the good and bad deals. Complete luck.

I just checked and the best deals I got are; $1.50 Cheeseburger, $2 McFlurry and $3 Quarter Pounder.

    • +3

It could be random if Maccas are doing A/B testing.

  • +1

It’s the same as hello fresh and marley spoon offering free boxes for new customers, but nothing for those who use it all the time, or insurance companies charging more for not shopping around.

Create a new account and start again.

Same here, just ignore those personalized deals that you think are too expensive and the algorithm will bring the price of those deals down eventually.

  • +1

i had about 5 different accounts which get 5 different deals

    • Rookie numbers for around here but whatever.

  • +3

Yep, same with Woolies and coles bonus point deals. You have to skip scanning you card so you get better deals.

Maccas keeps trying to lure me back with hash browns as they know I like them. The deals get more attractive if I don’t take them.

  • Is this fair?

    That old chestnut.

  • Mine has the same deal for $6

  • +1

Location based? Might be a franchise-pushed deal offered on a per-store basis, rather than per-customer.

  • How much for a salad?

  • +2

I keep getting hash browns, piss-take.

  • I bit the bullet and got it for $6 and I thought that was a rort!

  • Its so they can get even more addicts and then raise the prices on them later on

  • There are some things in life you have to pay the price their asking.

Takeaway food is not one of them go elsewhere or make your own.

  • It’s almost like McDonalds are spending their marketing money on ‘pursuadables’, not ‘sure things’.

  • People still eat at maces?

Cheaper to make your own. Will also taste better.
