Basic i7-2600 Desktop $629 Delivered + Free 8GB USB @ iiBuy

42

I'm in the market for a basic quad core i7 desktop.

This is the cheapest I have found by a fair margin and comes with a 2 year RTB (15 mins from Sydney airport) warranty.

Basic specs:
* Brand: Playtronics (?)
* Intel i7-2600 CPU
* No operating system
* No keyboard/mouse
* 8gb RAM
* ASUS Intel H77 chipset motherboard
* 24x DVD/CD burner
* 1tb 7200rpm hdd
* Intel HD2000 integrated graphics on CPU
* 550W PSU
* Onboard sound/gigabit LAN
* Bluetooth
* Multi card reader
* Free Sandisk 8gb USB 2.0 flash drive (on all orders over $300)

Yes the i7-2600 is superceded by the i7-3770 - however the speed increase from the benchmarks I've seen is minimal and the price increase is around $70 (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/INTEL-Core-i7-2600-3-4GHz-DESKTOP…)

Not sure of the graphics difference between a 2600 and a 3770…

Anyway for a cheap and cheerful no-name i7 this looks to fit the bill nicely…

    If you don't need the ability to expand/add SSD/etc then you might also want to consider one of the 11 Dell Optiplex 790 small form factor machines on Dell Outlet right now for $599
    http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/product…

    They have similar specs but only one internal 3.5" drive bay, 240 watt PSU, no Bluetooth, no card reader, USB 2.0 ports only and a 250gb hdd. They do come with DOS installed and a mouse/keyboard.

    • For $599, you also might not consider it. Whilst the OP deal comes close to being a bargain, this is absolutely no where near it.

    • dell desktops = you are stuffed with their proprietary sized PSU.

    I've personally found iiBuy to be rather dodgy (eg not sending out order, even after a month and they wouldn't respond to any emails).

    They've also got quite a bad rep with whirlpool…

    I guess for most people, they're a bit hit and miss.

    The graphics imo are much better on the 3rd gen i7s
    And I don't get why you wouldnt get a 3820 which is the same price as the 2600

    You could make a better pc for 600 then this. No deal. Head over to whirlpool and look at suggested builds.

    I highly doubt the average user would notice the difference between i5's and i7's - they aren't all they're cracked up to be. Even gamers, I'm led to believe, prefer i5's.
    With that in mind, I think Centrecom PC's are probably better value.
    This, for example: http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/thunder-thunderbolt-inte…
    It has an operating system, graphics card and a monitor, for only $70 more.

    Additionally: as a rule for most pre built desktops: I wouldn't trust the PSU as far as I could kick it (for me, not far).

    • Yep, going to refer to the 'K' models right now but in theory they should be about the same statistically (K just adds overclocking and 100mhz or so to the core speeds). The difference between an i5-2500k and i7-2600k is only a few frames, so the $100 difference in price tends to not be justified if building a nice gaming rig.
      Agree'd with the PSU too, a good quality PSU is a must if you want the PC to last (even name brand PSU's can be dodgy, so be very careful picking one).

        I must be lucky then, I've never had problems with my PSU and I've never given them any thought…

        But then again, I don't overclock nor have a honking fast GPU or >5 HDDs…. ;)

    Pfft! No separate video card. They're dreaming on the price!
