Jelly junk that neither of my cats have ever touched.

But you're right, maybe skinny or non fussy cats would eat.

My cats froth on Felix. Funny little creatures.

My 14 year old cat's favourite food is still Whiskas kitten food from when she had a litter 12 years ago and kept stealing their food, cats are ridiculous.

      • +3

Same!! my cats eat nothing but Felix. Picky eaters….

  • Four of my cats are eating high-quality raw kangaroo meat, but one mischievous little feline prefers Felix brand cat food, consuming approximately six pouches per day. Although I am aware that this is not a healthy choice. Can you suggest any alternative jelly-based cat foods of superior quality that I should consider feeding him?

    • consuming approximately six pouches per day.

Yikes! Have you considered feeding him dry food for a majority of the day and maybe one pack of Felix as a treat?

      • +1

        Yep. That's what I do.
What's the weight of the cat for it to eat 6 packs.

        • From memory the pouch says 1 pack per kg per day or something, which is ridiculous.

Maybe if the cat is eating ONLY that then it makes sense, but very far from healthy (and also extremely expensive)

          • @mangobango: You might want to double check my info, but i think the 1 Pack per kg per day is only for kittens, or the first year, i don't think it applies to all cats, all the time.

After the first year we switched to the Felix adult cat pouches, 1/2 pouch morning + 1 Tablespoon dry food - Lunch 1 Tablespoon dry food - Dinner, same as morning (finish the pouch).

He was a little over weight at ~ 14 months (when we started the above), he's now spot on.. going to start heaping more dry food on the spoon to maintain him.

He gets cat cocaine (Dine creamy treats) 2-4 times per week.

            • @virtual81: It is cat cocaine. My kitty goes nuts when I walk from the cupboard holding that. He knows!

              • @brisneylander: In place of the Dine brand try searching Woolies / Coles for 'Pretty Wild Cat Food Creamy'
Should show 2 results at least, basically the same as the Dine but cheaper, cat goes just as crazy for them.

            • @virtual81: I just checked the pouch (Doubly Delicious for adults) and yeah it says 1 pack per kg in at least 2 separate meals. Nothing about kittens or only in the first year or something. Either way there's no way he's getting that much wet food lol.

Your meal plan sounds good, we have an auto feeder for dry food so he gets bits throughout the day, and then half a pack of Felix as a "goodnight" treat.

Agreed that Dine stuff is cat cocaine, he goes absolutely crazy for it!

              • @mangobango: As per the other reply above, In place of the Dine brand try searching Woolies / Coles for 'Pretty Wild Cat Food Creamy'
Should show 2 results at least, basically the same as the Dine but cheaper, cat goes just as crazy for them.

The meal plan was something we developed in conjunction with our 12 month checkup. Was told he was getting a bit too chonky.
They wanted to sell us their food.. I'm sure it's great.. But we're not millionaires.

The diet I mentioned seems to have put our guy back on track over the 12 months since the vet visit, due for another soon.
I think they'll agree we have him under better control.

Son just yesterday got 120 packets of 'Felix as good as it looks' food, our guys favourite, from an Uber deal for under $100 delivered, better then the best supermarket price we've had. Most of the boxes were best before late 2024, with one best before Nov 2023.
I'd post this as a deal, but i don't have the full details.

It might be a good deal but I'd caution against jumping on it unless you and your cat are happy with that food.

  • Much appreciated OP! :)

  • i used to feed my cats fresh meat in the morning, whiskas gravy at night and dry food for grazing. i had the unfortunate mistake of buying felix because coles ran out of whiskas. now, all they eat is felix. its like theyve suddenly found ambrosia (greek mythos) and dont want to eat anything else. they still do dry food grazing but felix has totally replaced the fresh meat and whiskas altogether.
