Great Value on Belkin Power Pack 4000mAH ($44) and 2000mAH ($38)

120

Hello,

Tablets and Smartphones are great, however one of the frustrations I have is the poor battery life. Especially if you use high processor activities (i.e. Wifi, Browsing, GPS).

I noticed a colleague at work with a Belkin Powerpack which essentially doubles as a portable USB charger.

The 4000mAH - chargers Tablets, Smartphone, cell phones. Although a disadvantage of this model is it requires a wall plug to recharge the unit itself.

The 2000mAH - charges smartphones and Cell phones.

The cheapest prices I noticed were from The Good Guys $44 (rrp 69.00) for the 4000mAh and $38 for the 2000mAH (49rrp).

Note - the RRP prices are from Goodguys, the web prices and dicksmith are higher.

Enjoy :)

Good deal though. Cheapest I saw online was $59 for 4000mAH

  • +1

4000mah @ $44. That is the pick of them.

    Good price.

  • Looks like a good deal for a branded & local item so good work OP!

Obviously a no-name brand and obviosuly not local and obviously risky (blah, blah, blah) however I took the plunge on a few of these last week: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/200788228899?ssPageName=STRK:MEWN…. I'm yet to receive them so unfortunately can't report on them yet (sorry) but 12000mAh @ $27 is leaps and bounds better value than anything I could find locally. I'm not trying to overshadow the OPs deal but thought this may be informative for other OB'ers looking for these devices.

    • It looks too small to be 12,000mAh.

I bought a chinese 3,500mAh battery for my SGS2 which I measured to be about 2,000mAh.

      • How did you measure it?

        • +4

I've got a West Mountain Radio CBA-III battery analyzer. I set it to load the battery at 500mA which is what an SGS2 running at max load would draw (based on approximately how quickly you can drain the original battery from full). Cutoff voltage was 2.8V.

The results are here in case you're interested. I bought three "3,500mAh" batteries. The first one was around 2,400mAh but the second and third ones were just over 2,000mAh. The original 1600mAh Samsung battery was accurate, at 1,617mAh.

          https://s3.amazonaws.com/eug/SpiderFoot-3.5Ah-SGS2-Battery-T…

My friend also bought a "660mAh" chinese ebay battery for his Sony camera. It measured out at about 300mAh.

        • Fantastic, thanks for the graph and testing breakdown.

  • +1

Also 5400 mAh for $50, SA company, Chinese stock

    http://www.padacs.com/cart/product.php?id=116

  • I tried to order it online plus delivery but I am having difficulties in the payment section. Can anyone help me on this?

  • Steve

just abut all the battery products on ebay are nowhere near the rated capacity.

I bought a 3400mAh batter case for my Galaxy Note and was lucky to get a 50% increase in battery life - so it was more like 12-1300 as the note's battery is 2500 mAh

The 4000mAh looks a decent buy at the price. Very tempting. Just annoying to carry something as big as the phone.

    • Agreed. It's a bit of a lucky dip unfortunately as I too have been caught out by dodgy Chinese junk however I've also purchased some ripper replacement batteries for my HTCs over the years that have far exceeded the original battery for both stamina and life expectancy and they've been less that $6 shipped! I'll see how my 12000mAh packs go but even if they're a THIRD of their rated capacity I'll still be in front ;)

I knew I'd get a neg for that earlier posting though. Too funny :P

      • Please share the Ebay seller for the good HTC batteries.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Yoobao-YB-642-11200mAh-Power-Bank…

been using these two for quite a while. very good quality compare to other chinese powerbank.

Thanks for that Vandwi. This is the true spirit of OzBargain… no-one is expected to know exactly how these things perform until they purchase them and I'd believe a fellow OB'er over a cheesy eBay description any day. Of course all purchases are risky and Chinese eBay purchases are even riskier but word of mouth still rules and some of my Chinese eBay purchases have paid off BIG time over the years.

The OP offering is still very good though because at least you have a big name behind the product and you can walk into a shop to get it tomorrow if need be. Absolutley not trying to put a cat amongst the pigeons, just trying to inform fellow OB'ers so they can make an educated purchase.

      • totally agree with @SteveAndBelle. Yoobao is a chinese brand, but they perform really well and you can see some other chinese seller on ebay trying to copy this brand and sell it cheaper. have a look at this link. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Portable-12000mAh-USB-Power-Bank-…

Hey jtb! No, the pro is just a newer version. the YB642 comes before the YB641pro. the main differences is on the mAh size and also the usb. the yb642 allow you to charge 2 phones at the same time (2A & 1A). the pro version only 1A single usb.

and also remember to consider the size. this thing is quite huge! my best suggestion is to carry this in a bag. go for a smaller mAh size (belkin)if you will carry the power bank around in your pocket.

        • is this one any good? specs looks hectic for only $26.50 with free shipping!!
would it be as good as the YOOBAO brand above?

        • -1

no idea with the fake copy. was tempted to the fake one as well, but decided to go for the YOOBAO.

they look identical though. give it a try and let us know :)

        • Pity there isn't an 'Oz-NON-Bargain' section where we could post up things that are 100% proven non-bargains like all the Chinese junk we come across. Open to abuse but could be handy for others doing pre-purchase research.

        • the yoobao YB642 seems to work with my galaxy note and iphone very well.

        • Yeap.. Work well too with blackberry, ipad, pocket wifi 2.

    • Hey vandwi, does the pro model have any advantages over the non pro model?

  • Can it charge asus transformer tablet?

    • Saw this post on Amazon review:

The important thing to consider is that this device supplies USB power. So if your phone or GPS or bluetooth or whatever has a mini or micro USB plug, you can likely power it or charge it from this battery. But if your portable devices require an older-type power plug, usually some type of barrel connector (round), this portable battery will not work for you.

I was thinking of getting this for my netbook but as it uses an older round type power plug I don't think it'll work. If the Asus gets power from a usb plug it'll work

  • Wonder if this would be suitable as a portable power source for a Raspberry Pi…

  • I bought one of these from Aldi the other day:
    http://www.traveler-service.de/cms/fileadmin/downloads/Tevio…

Dual USB 2.1A/1A charger with 7400 mAh battery for $30. Can be charged over USB or with supplied charger.

Works really well, the capacity seems to be as advertised and it comes with a 3 year warranty from Aldi. Quality seems to be decent with solid metal casing. Only thing that I can see wrong with it is that it's a bit on the chunky side, roughly 2cm thick.

The Belkin powerpacks seem to be decent for phone charging, but just keep in mind that 4000 mAh is not enough for lots of tablets. The new iPad for example has a 11666 mAh battery, so the Belkin powerpack would only charge about 1/3 of that.

+1 i have these - they are the best value locally imo

Agreed $29 for 7400mah with ALDI 3 yr warranty! **edit and 2A output for a single device

I bought two and they are going great. I'll take them back to ALDI after 35 months for refund. The battery packs will be knackered by then for sure.

        • this is the abusing the refund policy instead of ozbargain spirit

        • -1

Did anyone of the mindless clowns who negged Flyerone even read his post?

If there is a 3 year warranty on a product, and the batteries inside become unusable in that time during normal and expected use, then the product is not suitable and can be returned.

        • Warranty generally refers to workmanship and quality of the product. If the product stops working altogether or the battery does not work as described when it was sold, of course you can take it back for a return.

Flyerone said he'll take it back after 35 months (just under 3 years) to refund them, as batteries do deteriote after time (due to wear and tear not usually covered by warranty). Basically, he's trying to give a 'deposit' to use the battery, wear it out, and then return it for his money back.

        • actually if flyerone read the warranty card it states that the batteries are only warranted for 6months not the 3 years, the 3 years is on rest of the product. So they wont take it back if you reason is that the batteries are worn out. But I guess this would also depend on the store person etc.

      • are the Aldi ones still available? Can't find them

  • I have a 5000mAh Aldi one and a spare battery in a seperate charger.

My charger is 16,000mAh and it cost me $74 not $44. 4 times the capacity for less than double the price.

Why do I have all this? There is a huge limitation on these chargers. You cannot charge more than two phones at one time.

    • auna,

Can you share which brand/model you have and where you purchased it from?

      Thanks

  • RE: The Yoobao-YB-642-11200mAh-Power-Bank

Done a bit of research and it seems to have pretty good reviews.

Just bought one on aliexpress for ~$26.50 delivered.

    • thats cheap.can you show us the link? thanks.

    • I can't see any reviews that talk about it's true capacity or output current, except one comment under a review itself;
"Just bought it from local dealer here. Use Current Widget app on my Android HD2 to see how it perform with another 2000mA charger..

dissapointing.. output is low.. slightly lower than my power 1000mA power miracle.."

I have been disappointed a few times with chargers that claimed 2.1A output but after testing them they max out at ~1.3A, which is useless for tablets.

  • Can this charge an ipad?

    • +1

The Goodguys one can't (not fully anyways), but the Yoobao one I linked above can.

    • +1

The Padacs one specifically states it will.

  • I just bought the Belkin power pack 4000mAh, and it doesn't charge my nokia n900,
but it does charge my ipod touch 4th. I read the review from dicksmith and one says it doesn't charge nokia n8.
I think I will take it back to thegoodguys and get a refund.

  • Bought one from Ozstock few months earlier, as below.
    5000mAh IT-CEO Portable Power Recharger U6850, Quantity: 1, Unit price: $34.98,  Sub-total: $34.98
    Shipping fee: $6.98
    Total: $41.96
can charge ipad and my smartphones. does not come with charger. i connect usb cable of recharger to ipad charger.
Experience with the one I have - Full capacity of this recharger charges just under 20% capacity on my ipad. However, found it a nice temporary solution before having my ipad battery replaced.

  • Can you charge the Belkin Power pack 4000 with USB or does it need the power plug?

  • bought one yesterday from the nunawading store.
They price matched the online price.

  • +3

Belkin Power Pack 2000mAh is now down to $13.50. Seemed to be available at 4x locations in VIC.

    http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/Belkin_Power_Pack_20…

(4000mAh model still seems to be $44, and only available at 2x locations in VIC)

    • Awesome, thanks!

    • +1

…and it looks like i should've waited another day - 4000mAh are now also reduced, down to $23.

      • Damn ahaha… I already bought the 2000mAh one too!
edit: all the GGs near me don't have the 4000mAh one in stock. Phew!

      • the 4000 uses a separate (non-usb) charger which is pretty annoying if you want this for traveling. So the 2000 might be a better option anyway? Nice spotting!
