Needing a hotel around Auckland CBD. Been overwhelmed looking at so many websites!
Reasonable price reasonable quality, doesnt have to be 5-star just comfortable and safe.
No need for ocean/harbour view (because we will be visiting lots of islands).
I guess biggest factor is access, must be convenient to public transport as we plan on not hiring a car.

Availability was the biggest issue I faced when I've been going for work the last few months (flooding, cyclones and the numerous canned flights).
Park Hyatt and Hilton are good but further out towards the water.
CBD is a bit of a mess at the moment - underground rail stations and a lot of people moving to the suburbs. I found QT and Skycity pretty good.
Crowne Plaza - avoid as it's near a construction zone so you'll need to be able bodied and call for a car etc as they don't really stop there
I've been told to avoid Hobson Street area as it's not super safe but I walked through that area and whilst the hotels are pretty bad, it's in a high traffic area.
Yes, now you reminded me why I was ovewhelmed…. one of the reasons is that half of them are not available on our dates. The other half are super-expensive.
Interesting about Hobson Street.. thought the InterCity Bus starts.

Wouldn't you start by using an aggregator site, select a couple to compare with the hotel's site, and go from there?
