Thanks OP. Just bought the flood light and power strip. I don't know why, because I just returned two of the 5m light strips which were garbage. I never learn…
    But hey, $10 each!

But yeah, stay away from the light strips. The original and replacement had bad connections and failed almost immediately. The double sided tape let go within a day. The silicone enclosure isn't sealed at the end, so not waterproof.

    • Oh damn really? I bought this a while back but havent even opened it yet to try out.

      • The first one fell off within a day. The double-sided tape seems to be old, not sure. On the upside, it came cleanly off both the strip and furniture I had attached it to. The light strip itself had issues with warm white; the LED's for warm white only worked for the first 60cm.

I contacted support and got a replacement. I installed it (using double sided tape I bought myself), and it worked fine that evening. By the next day, all LED's after the first 1 metre failed. Not just warm-white; all of them. When I pressed/bent on the contacts at the point of failure, they would flicker on/off. The strip is made up of a lot of segments put together and the connections are bad.

        Other users reported similar issues.

I was sick of installing and removing light strips, so went to Good Guys and bought a $54 TP-Link one, which works fine and sticks extremely well. Not waterproof, but using indoor anyway. Besides, the Kogan one isn't waterproof either. No point having the weight of the silicone if it isn't even sealed at the end.

The Foxtel now box is Android TV version 7 from memory. I have a couple of them running Leanback on Firestick launcher and they run OK. A little slow, but Kodi, Kayo, Disney etc work alright.

Google Assistant is the only feature I haven't been able to get running.

Save the $10 and put it into a chromecast or firetv

Yes, the current Fire TV Stick Lite is faster and less buggy than this Foxtel Now box. It often goes on sale for $29. Combine that with a $10 voucher from JB/Good Guy and you get a cheap and reliable streaming stick for under $20.

If you can afford it, go for the Fire Stick 4K Max, usually on sale for $49.

    • Yeah. People shit on them but they have some good hardware inside. For $10 it's a steal, as long as you have the time to put towards fiddling with it.
Im over fiddling myself. I'd rather pay 10x as much and have something that works, but I find thats no guarantee either. Just a few less hurdles

      • I have customised it, disabled Foxtel apps and installed custom launcher. The speed was acceptable.

Every now and then, the dreaded lagging bug would appear where you click once but it move 2-3 times making it impossible to select anything. The only fix is to force a reboot by turning it off and on at the powerpoint. It was too annoying and not worth putting up with.

I came to the conclusion that kogan use poor quality LED arrays in their smart home products

  • It's a shame the powerboards oos, was mainly only good thing there

  • Thanks. Wish I say this post earlier, didn't get email for this one last night, So missed out on the powerboard.

The Foxtel Now Box has to be the worst piece of garbage I've ever used.

Slow, crashes a heap, menu's are absolute crap, the list goes on and on. I feel reasonably experienced with ATV/GTV having used Shields, Mi Boxes, CCwGTV, Vodafone TV and other assorted media players over the past few years and the Foxtel Box is without doubt the worst I've ever seen.

The tiny cheap SmartVU puck I got for travel from Kmart (I think..?) is even far better outside of the TV tuner.
