Essential games. Absolute must-have in your Steam library for that cheap if you don't already.

    • +1

I have it…do I have to play it too?

      • +9

You're missing out if you don't try it.

      • +2

i'd recommend it - first game I run when setting up a new system / install

        • why? is it a particularly demanding game?

          • +2

@bakemon0: The opposite - Portal 1 is an extremely easy game to run by modern standards so if it didn't run well then there'd be major issues. But the simplicity also let's you test your mouse settings or anything else. I've played it a few times so I'd quickly know if something "doesn't feel quite right"

Plus, it's not a bad excuse to accidentally play the game again haha

        • I usually install furmark and followed by 3D mark for that. Also can check if the system is running on par with other similar hardware. But there is no right or wrong way, just the way I do it :)

        • This reminds me with DirectX and .Net framework - something that you would install prior to game installation back in the old days…

A no brainer at this price.

Owning Portal 1 also grants you access to "Portal with RTX" (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2012840/Portal_with_RTX/) for those who have been partaking in the recent slew of prebuilt PC deals and have a card that can handle it.

      Thanks Jonzay, added to OP.

      reviews are mixed

      • +1

Looks like lots of people having trouble getting it to run nice - RTX is fickle.

Still, it's free, so no harm in trying.

    • +5

There's also two free fantastic mods for Portal 2.
Portal Stories: Mel and Portal Reloaded
Highly recommend both after beating the two main games.

back to say the RTX version was an awesome tip. only had 1 crash on 3070 laptop. a few little Easter eggs around too from nvidia . Thank you for sharing <3

      • Played it on my 3080 laptop. Had to turn down the RTX settings to the lowest with DLSS set to performance. Got about 45fps at 1440p.
I could set the DLSS to ultra performance for an above 60fps experience but the visual quality really tanked at this setting.
Also had one crash when adjusting settings.
Would probably work a fair bit better at 1080p instead of 1440p

    This deal is a triumph

We do what we must because we can

    • Till we run out of cake

  • +9

Portal 1 is short and fun
Portal 2 is bigger and even more fun

    • +5

If you're a Portal fan and can't get enough, I recommend these free mods:
Portal Prelude is bigger and more challenging
Portal Stories: Mel is bigger and even more challenging

And one I've yet to play:
Portal Reloaded: not yet, tried it, my brain hurts thinking about it.

Thanks for the heads up MiniMoo!

Check out Portal Pro and Rexaura as well.

        • Awesome, will do mate!

I wish we could gift bundles, I also miss the ability to buy great deals you already had and keep them in inventory for future gifts.

    • It's only a $0.72 surcharge to buy them individually for gifting purposes. $1.45 each.

  • anyone know if Steam supports M1 Macs? Would sign up and download for this deal!

    • +1

I have an M1 and apparently Portal wont run on them. I haven't tried it yet though.

Edit - just tested it and it certainly doesnt work on M1, the game that is.

      • Just to clarify, this is because it's a 32-bit program. So it won't run on any updated Mac's.

    • -1

      yes it does

    • +3

Steam does, but Portal 1 & 2 do not (because Valve never updated them for 64-bit, and Apple deprecated 32-bit app support years ago).

      • damn, so it is game specific…

    • Remember when it was a blessing to have a game play on Intel Mac's, and then Apple releases the M1 Mac's 🤣
There are SOME decent games you can play, but it's very limited at the moment

      • Or even when Apple was using PowerPC processors….

  • +1

    Will there be cake?

  • Have both, fun games

  • Man, reminds me of how long it's been since valve released games…

    • Even Half Life Alyx was a little while back now

  • When does the sale end.

    • 7 March. (It's in the OP.)

  • +1

    thanks OP

  • +1

Damn I already have both from a previous deal, but I love these games so much I want to buy them again.

    • +2

Buy them again and gift them to someone you know.

      • +1

At this price - it's a great idea.

  • +1

Cheers OP - grabbed the bundle for each of my boys!

  • What no cake?

  • +1

I think the only thing I was disappointed about with Portal 2 was that the ending song wasn't as good as Still Alive.

    • +1

That's a near impossible task to top "Still Alive"

  • It was $1.09 for the bundle because I already had Portal 1.

  • +1

I hope they release Portal 3

    • I really hope they do!

I love Portal that much that I had a dream I was playing Portal 3. Sad, I know.

This time it wasn't confined to a lab, or interiors, it was outside in the real world. Your gun had been modified to include all the gels from the 2nd game, so with a click of a button it would shoot a blob of white and then a portal almost straight away. You could therefore fire portals onto any surface. It was cool.

  • +1

Everyone hypes this game so much - guess its finally time to play it.

  • This was a triumph.

  • is it playable with a control pad?
